Hello from Fresno, introduction
Great time driving on CA-33
Little one is a little shy
I decided recently to take the first step on the Rx8club and introduce myself. Previously been lurking only and posted once or twice in the classifieds section.
My first 8 was 05 MT winning blue. Currently own 2010 sport MT in black with 70k miles.
I picked the Rx8club after looking and bidding online at Corvettes, 350z and S2000. It's a great little car with more $ value and a bit more practicality in my case having wife and 2 kids.

Story of the Blue Car
Agravated by the situation, towing back to the dealership
LAFD giving their OK to tow after a gas spill
The blue car was sold in 2016. Immediately after completing recall work on the gas tank seals the new gasket had a defect. Gasoline spewed for minutes and I got me a tow to the dealer-ship

Thank you! Driving my S1, felt slightly more like a hot rod compared to the S2. My wife also thought the S2 is easier for her to drive. S2 feels in my opinion slightly more modern and refined.
Maybe it was the aftermarket wheels or at one point I thought maybe the S1 previous owner had installed a lightweight flywheel?
After the gasoline incident and selling the S1, I was in the market for something else like a 4-door G35 with a manual tranny. Then I saw the S2 on Craigslist here in town and bought it from the first owner's son ... He prefered a Subaru.
Long story short, after a year and some change of ownership I knew warranty was expiring later this year so I took it to the dealership about 2 weeks ago and compression was just below the spec. Currently the reman motor arrived Yesterday (Friday) and they plan to start installing it next week.

Smart move on getting the engine replaced under warranty. Sounds like the S2 was a great buy being a one family car. It was probably well cared for. Will look forward to more pics of that 2010!!

Wheels are now in motion
The local Mazda dealer claims they lost their compression tester, so I am working with another dealer about 20 miles away.
About 3 weeks ago I failed the compression test. I was not expecting I would have to leave my car on the spot, but they claim it's required to make sure I don't go make more damage to the car.
Pleasantly surprised
Finally this past Friday I visited the dealer to see the progress and also put eyes on the clutch since I am paying their dealer prices on the clutch parts. Instead of 4.5 hours, I pay 1.5 hours of labor if done together with the warranty motor replacement.

Front of the Old motor
Back of the new motor, they keep it on the hoist but low as possible
Subframe dropped, funny how the tranny looks like it was shrunk (but it's just in the background)
She is just patiently waiting ... Hope I don't goof off the brake in!

Located a magnet on the oil filter
When I picked up the car noticed the oil level was a little high but drove the 15 miles home and then drain excess the next day. Turns out it was over a quart over but easy to fix and gave me an idea of the amount of debris in there.
At around 150 miles, performed a double oil change and flushed the coolant. Car feels solid so far after around 750 miles.

The new motor together with a fresh clutch makes a big difference. Motor feels stronger in the top end, also improved drivability around town with what feels like more range of clutch engagement.
I am happy the new clutch doesn't feel overly light. Feels just right.
