Hello from Gainesville, Florida
Hello all, I’ve been threatening to buy an RX-8 for a while now and I’m now seriously looking for a nice example. I’ve owned some interesting cars over the past 30 years (Ferrari 308, Porsche 911, 944 Turbo, etc.) and recently bought a 2020 Porsche Cayman GT4 that I was planning on using at a track car before the reality of risking that much $$$ became real. So The RX-8 will be the track/autocross car while also the fun car where I won’t get bent out of shape over parking lot dings. Thanks for such a great, informative forum and hope to contribute in any way I can.

Well, you definitely have the money to do something special with this car. You have two options. Buy a good example with a good engine or buy a really nice shell with a bad engine and either replace or swap the engine. You could also look into the Keisler Automation LFX swap kit as well if you need more power. What did you have in mind?

My workload won’t let me take on another big project right now so I’m thinking about buying a good example with good engine and run that while making some incremental upgrades along the way. Thanks for the tip on the Keisler Automation LFX swap kit, checking out their website now, great resource.
You will want to ensure the engine is compression tested before purchase. You could go with a Series 2 example as well with lower milage.

The problem with the stock Renesis engine is its difficult and expensive to even reach 300 whp. You really need to be able to enjoy it mostly stock as it is. All it really needs is a good exhaust kit and a good ignition and cooling system to run optimally. There are upgrades worth doing like a SOHN adapter but most are to improve reliability and handling over making more power.

What going on guys just just wanted to see if there were any updates? I just bought another rx8, so im trying to get back into it. I used to have a red 2006 6 speed and now i have a white 05 auto. Bought it as a project for cheap and im am trying to get it running right. It would be nice to link up with someone that is familiar with the s1.
