Hey Mark,
congrats on the 8 and welcome to the club.
Lots of interesting topics covered in this subforum but if you need any assistance let us know and I'm sure someone can help out.

Any info on the RX-8 you want to share?
Year, color, Auto or Manual, etc.

Velocity Red
I see what appears to be the Appearance package (although the drivers side one looks like it's not flush)
Oem wheels
Front splash guards
Fender stakes
And an aftermarket lip spoiler on the trunk.

Nice car, congrats

I thought those looked off...
thanks Sonic.

I'm trying to figure out that weird rear bumper but I can't figure out what it is (or is supposed to be / copied from)

Shine Auto is a company that makes replica kits of some of the popular Japanese brands.
Closest would be the KS (which is a ripoff of the Kenstyle).

Yours doesn't appear to be the Shine.

Maybe it's just a really bad replica of the Kenstyle that they altered the sides of the bumper on?

In the search tab type “wwww site Rx8club flooded” and several posts will come up. Read through a few of these to get the gist of what to do. Then get another battery or your spouse’s brand new car (mine was worried) to provide extra battery. Took me about 45 minutes with reading and shuffling vehicles. Be patient on the cranking routine.

^^ this. You should be fine. Plenty of deflooding videos on youtube as well.
Flooding a symptom of poor ignition or poor starter speed, so look into those.

I know there’s probably a post about this but … charged battery and she fired into life 😊
no engine lights great … so I thought
but after a few mins warming up engine light came on ( flashing ) ran a tad rough so did the shut down procedure… did the start up procedure and nothing wouldn’t start again …
from what I can read a flashing engine warning light means a misfire … am I right I have a obd reader now so think to read it properly it needs to be running …

Key on to look at stored codes where your misfire code will live. At least my cheapo reader lets me view codes this way. No need to be running.

I’m parroting what others have said here - misfire problem (coils/plugs/wires) will take out the cat if left alone. Don’t leave a misfire issue unresolved. Once that’s sorted you might want to pull the mid pipe and inspect your catalytic converter.

You can read the codes with the car in ON but not running.
Definitely sounds like severe ignition problems. Easy fix though. This is the number one killer of RX8s. What's the history of the car before your bought it?

I’ll check the obd reader tomorrow … I did notice that when I was charging the battery earlier I left it connected to the car and seemed to take quite a wile to charge … but. Now battery is off and in house charging it seems to be charging quicker

Given that this is all new to you I would verify each part individually. Battery, coils, spark plugs, etc. Silly things like dirty battery terminals can masquerade as other issues.
