Assuming those are authentic Mazda parts, yeah that's where I would start. Might be worth getting the old stuff off first to assess what it is / what's going on in the combustion chamber (by reading the plugs).
The control circuit low points to the air pump either missing or borked.
Given the body kit shenanigans, is the engine bay generally stock? Is the intake stock? Poor intakes can cause this stuff too. Share some pictures of that for familiarization please.

fyi thats a 4 port m/t. i would throw that rear bumper in the trash or fold it up into a box and mail it to ricky
