BC Hello from Vancouver, Canada! Recently bought a 2010 RX-8, R3 model, check it out

Hi, I'm new here and just wanted to introduce myself. Just bought my R3 a couple weeks ago. It's a 2010 model, Black, with only 21000 km on it. It is so sweet to drive and great to look at. I'm quickly realizing that the black car is gonna be hard to keep looking clean, gonna have to take good care of it.

I don't have any newbie questions for you yet, I'm just reading as much as I can on here to figure what to do and what not to do. I'll probably have some dumb questions soon but I'll try to find as much as I can first.

Anyway here it is:

Looks good welcome!

You must be lying about being from Vancouver, in one of those pictures you can actually see the sun reflecting off the car lol

Yeah from what I've been reading a compression test would be a good idea. I probably should have had it done before buying it, but I didn't know about it. I just had a standard inspection done on the car before I bought it, and it's in good shape overall. Car is running nicely so far. I'm going to get a compression test done soon hopefully. Just need to find a good shop where they can do it properly.

Yep this year has been strangely pretty good in Vancouver, it's been dry and sunny a lot this whole year

Ya I made the same mistake of not getting mine compression tested first either. I got lucky though because my numbers came out good. But everyone else seems to be saying "no test, no sale" haha. Take it to a mazda dealer and have it done!

Spend enough time watching the new threads created in the new member area and you will see that for every case where someone bought an 8 with good compression numbers and didn't know it, there are at least 5+ that arrive complaining about hot starts, stalling, power loss, misfires, etc... and then find out the engine is gone, and had been gone before purchase. Most are SOL, not having any warranty coverage of any type.

Compression test would have been good but since it's a 2010 you still have like 5 years left on the engine warranty.

Looks awesome by the way! Take care of her!

Sucks that you have to have a front plate :/

Yes I definitely have plenty of warranty coverage, including engine and extended bumper-to-bumper for another 5 yrs/100000 km, but I don't want headaches. I'll try to get a compression test within the next month. The engine and everything seems to be running really well and running smoothly, so hopefully that means it's in good shape. I'm also going to be looking at doing some of the upgrades people talk about on here to do with the cooling and oil systems.

ensure you are following the series 2 mods, and not the series 1's! The 2 engines differ in some respects, WRT oil...

Congrats! I'm trying to decide if it's worth it for me to get the r3 model (my first 8)

How are you liking the recaros?

To the op, what made you decide on the r3? I'm in the market and know the differences between the trim levels. I am just wondering why you personally chose the r3. I'm sure you can't go wrong with the r3 but as a guy who likes to mod cars, I don't know what model to choose.

I wasn't specifically looking for only the R3 version, but this one happened to be. I looked at a few other RX8's when I was looking for a car (also tried several other makes & models of cars). This car had everything I was looking for, and I knew I liked it when I drove it. The extras that come with the R3 just made it that much sweeter. I really like the styling of the front and I like the recaros. I'm pretty happy with it and personally don't feel the need to do a lot of mods to it.

And I wasn't going to go so far as to call the recaros godly, but they are nice and they hold me snugly when I sit in them, and the cloth fabric parts are good because the material breathes.

I bought an r3 two years ago because I wanted to max out the handling. I also was attracted to the Recaro seats, the BBS wheels and the Bilstein shocks -- three companies I have always wanted as part of my cars -- finally did all three mods, at the factory!

I just got mine as well it's blue tho had the comp. Test done day one, where I got it from u get a 5 day money back guarantee no hassle. 8."something" on all readings for the comp test I was so happy. Burned threw 1000 miles like it was nothing and sure enough it took 1qt of oil exactly to fill her back up to line. She is under a car cover for winter now tho, can't wait for spring time going to have a blast in it. Congratulations on your buy hope you have many fun corners ahead of you.
