Help!
I recently went to go start my 8 and the security indicator light was on steady with the key in went to start and no crank I then removed the key and proceeded to start again no dash lights. Security light steady with car off disconnected the battery and reconnected and it was fine. I appreciate any feedback thanks.

I ave never actually done it but my instincts tell me that any Mazda dealer should be able to help you with the key recoding or replacement in case the chip is dead. Speaking of dead, is it possibly something as dumb as a dead battery in the remote?

The non-crank situation is a result of the security lockout system. If the key fails to send the correct code, the engine will not start. Once you get the key/chip issue resolved, that problem should disappear. If you have the owner's manual, it is explained in there and, for the record, it confirmed what I said before: the dealer has to be consulted as they might have to recode the security system if the key/chip proves to be faulty and needs to be replaced.

Mysterion is exactly right here. It hasn't happened to me but I know from my Mazda dealer they have had to recode for a couple of RX8 owners. The system which is preventing your starting is called the "engine immobolizer" . In theory, this would even prevent someone from hot-wiring your car.

Replaced the key battery no luck. When I diconnect the car battery for a while and reconnect it starts. A new addition. I have an AT. When I shift from reverse to drive the radio resets and a couple lights on the dash pop up and go away.
