Help with buying an Rx8

Hello everyone

Im going to look at a 2004 RX8 tomorrow and im hoping someone can give me some info on what i should do or look for incase there is any problem.

The seller is looking £800 for the car which i think is cheap which is making me think there might be a problem or 2 with it so any help would be appreciated!

Thank you!

Take it on a test drive and 15 - 20 minutes in shut it off and try to start it back up again, see if it has difficulty starting back up while the engine is warmed up. This could identify a compression problem.

Also look to see if the service engine light is on, and if it flashes or not. Flashing light denotes misfiring engine.

If you cannot arrange a rotary-specific compression test, you should assume it has a low compression engine. You should always get a compression test on any rotary-powered car before buying it.

Check the interior thoroughly if you're interested in having a nice interior for example the centre console, sun visors, vanity lights in the doors, headlining and all the plastics. Make sure the AC and Radio, CD player (if it has one) works. Let it get to operating temperature and get under the car and check if the cat isn't like glowing :P Pay close attention to the motor when you first start it, and then yeah like Gravey said, do a hot start. Make sure it revs up and down butter smooth. Heaps you can do really. But if there's any doubt in your mind get a compression test done at/from the nearest rotary specialist.
