Help please Cutting out
Hi,
Welcome everyone I have just got a Mazda Rx8 2005. I have tried searches and am literally going in circles with conflicting advice so hopefully someone can help me.
So I got the car and it wouldn't start at first so I changed out the coil packs, leads and plugs and cleaned the throttle body then the car started up straight away and idled perfectly until warm (about half way on temp gauge) then just died and would not restart. After reading the forums It was pointing towards a blocked/faulty cat...I let the car cool down and then it would restart I looked under the car after 2 minutes and the cat was glowing red!! I though this was the problem.
Tonight I removed the cat section started the car again and when the temp got half way it cut out then will not start again.
Any ideas I really want to get out and drive the car soon!
I do have a compression test from mazda which means nothing to me it came with the car.
Many Thanks
Neal

Can you post the compression scores? Or take a picture of the test sheet and attach it? (in advanced reply page for this thread, click 'manage attachments' button down below, in the 'additional options' section)

Ok thanks for the reply I have hopefully attached the sheets I got with the car.
I didn't think it would be compression it happens when its at idle not re-starting the car and it fires from cold fine just a flick of the key.
Thanks
Neal

Yeah, those score confirm that the engine is dead.
Trouble starting when hot but not cold is the hallmark sign of failing compression. The reason is that the housings expand with heat faster than the rotors expand. Not much, but enough that as the seals wear down, they eventually can't bridge the gap, and compression starts plummeting when the engine is hot. When cold, the seals still bridge the gaps, and starting is simple.
Your scores are in the 500s (KPA) for each rotor, normalized to 250rpm. The MINIMUM score for 250rpm is 680 KPA. Anything less is failing. So yours is failing rather badly.

You got a compression test, which is a good thing, but you bought a known dead engine. I hope you paid accordingly.
