hesitation at low rpm
Hi
I have 2008 231, I have recently replaced the plugs, coils and leads because a misfire developed. One of the trailing plugs were sooted up pretty badly but the rest showed a good combustion.
I have also done a full service using genuine mazda parts and oil.
The issue I am having is that the car has vibrations at idle, when I pick the revs up to 1000rpm the vibrations increase but quickly disappears. There is then mild vibrations felt at 3000rpm.
Also the car seems to hesitate for a split second at low rpm, has anyone come across this before?
I have also checked for vac leaks, I have cleaned the maf which helped a bit, checks the ssv has not got stuck.
Any pointers on what to check next as the car does go really well apart from the low rpm issue.
Thanks
Antony

More vibration without idle problems means a motor mount failure.
Get OBD2 data and see what your AFRs, Short term fuel trim, and MAF values are at idle, and what they do when you feel that hesitation.

Hi
Thank you for the quick reply, I have also changed the engine mounts but that made no difference.
With aircon running the vibrations can get pretty bad.
I am thinking its a fuelling issue. Can anyone recommend a decent obd 2 reader?
Thanks again

fueling is rarely the problem with the RX-8, it's far more likely to be an air flow problem if it's air/fuel related.
Grab a wifi or bluetooth OBD2 from amazon, connect it to your smart phone, and grab an OBD2 app. If you have an Android platform, I recommend Torque.

MAF was a good choice, that it helped means other stuff might be dirty too. Clean ESS, 20 stomps to reset ECU, Then tighten grounds.. details in the $100 thread below.
Usually that list applied to older ones, 04 through 06, but then I just realized I wrote it a few years ago... Welcome to the club....

Hi
Thank you for your input guys, I made a grounding kit up for my car and the engine runs a lot smoother I did notice that the battery terminals for slightly corroded, so I cleaned them up.
Just ordered some zoom cleaner to de coke the engine because if it hasn't been running too good then the rotor are most probably plastered in carbon.
Thanks
