Hey guys

HEY guys had my 8 for about two years lots of fun first car I bought myself and I’ve done all ALL my own work and I’ve had a lot of stupid mistakes since I had to learn myself. But question recently I’ve had a lot of issues. I replaced 02 sensors, ngk coils, spark plugs, and wires. changed coolant, have bigger radiator and after market fans also. Car has 76k on engine i premix rotary oil every time I fill up I do basically do every singe possible thing they say is best for these rotary’s. I have temp gauges and watch them. Once I replaced and did all this maintenance car idles somewhat okay. car always runs perfect but was idling a bit off recently. So big mistake I made was this. Couple month ago I cleaned my cold air intake filter with cleanser and oiled her up. Turns out it was a aem dry flow and yeah I’m new and learning my self. anyway I drove it like that for months maybe 5k miles and I bought a k&n and I put my mouth on the filter and blew then the aem dry flow and it was a big difference I mean no kidding I should have never oiled it lol but I put the k&n on and now it smells like it runs lean and stalls at idle after a little with ac off it idles fluctuates a tiny bit but it’s like you can hear how much better it’s sucking air if you sit next to the air filter. is it because the car had learned for so long to have to suck air harder? Disconnected battery all night and tryed to let it idle it self and fix it self. I also cleaned maf sensor and also have cleaned the ESS sensor. also I have a stuck open ssv I pulled it out when changing coolant and cleaned it spotless to the tea but maybe it’s just not working ? If i rev past 5k the little golden handle on the ssv shoots open I think ? Anyways any suggestions sorry for a lot I’ve done sm with this car and I just love it and don’t wana ever get rid of it. Also brand new altnator and clutch and light weight fly wheel with light weight pulleys and full exhaust. Cold start and hot start perfect take about 2 second or less to start everytime. It’s a 2004 rx8 lowered with coil overs all undertray and trim has all been removed.

I am going to also be changing my thermostat soon since I believe it is getting stuck a little I already burped my coolant. Also changing water pump since I just think it’s time for a new one. Engine mounts are also out and need to be changed a lot of vibration. I live we’re it gets over 100f starting be up lower 90s now tho my temps get to around 217f with ac on then usually drops to about 208f and stays there it’s that okay since ambient temps are high ? Also my car is lowered a good bit, so would I still be able to install an under tray if I wanted ?

Um get the undertray back on there if you don't want to overheat. It's not optional.

I am having difficulty understanding what you're saying, but "learned to suck harder" is not a thing. Get yourself an OBD reader and check short and long term fuel trims, they will tell you if there's a vacuum leak which it sounds like there is.

New engine mounts will make gear shifts smoother, check function of solenoid for the SSV along with free movement of the SSV itself, idle will smooth out after fuel trims are relearnt, that undertray is your friend to keep temperature under control so you might want to reinstall. Stand by for wiser thoughts by others. Double check threads about the SSV, it can cause stumbling around 4500.

You would get better responses with punctuation.

That is why punctuation exists; to make written communication easier.

If you make something difficult, you get less of it.

I'm not trying to sound condescending, but definitely finding it difficult to help.

I am sure you have codes stored, I would post them up when you read them.

okay I got the car without the undertray but have heard how good it is I live we’re it’s 100f degrees rn and my cars gets around 216f tops with ac on in traffic so I’m guessing it def worth to buy one and install !?

Ah! Your P2070 and 7000+ problems might be the VDI, not the SSV. There are 3 intake valves and they all can set P2070. The difference is in when they open and the VDI is at 7250 (which is about 7k on the tach, it reads low). The only weird thing is you're stuck Open, I'd expect this problem if it was stuck Closed. But in any case, worth investigating all 3 valves.

will do ! I did some search and if it is a vdi it makes a stuttering at the top end and mine does do that every so often I’ll come back once checked !
