Hi From SA TX - Back in the Game

Hi all -new to the forum.

Owned an '86 RX-7 in my earlier years and decided to sell for a little over 1K (one of those many regrets in life). Been driving a Mazda 3 for the past 10 years and it's time to move on, the rotary was calling.

2010 Black Sport, MT, 51K miles.

Went back to stock intake (long story), so I have an AEM cold air that's for sale - can't post the classified yet since I'm a noob. Would be happy to give details for anyone interested.

Pictures of old RX-7 (now gone, sadly) and the new 8.

Seeing your 7 makes me miss mine of the same color. She was my first and gone too soon...

And your 8 is defying gravity!

Welcome to the club. Read up on the newbie forums and make yourself comfy!

Thanks!

Selling it for $200, I'll pick up the shipping. Returning to stock cost me about me $350 when it was all said and done (multiple purchases), but I'm sort of liking the stock sound now that I'm there.

Pics attached - K&N is now clean, used official recharge kit (pics are before it was cleaned). This is a 21-485, so should fit all years.

fyi - item is listed on ebay for a higher price (due to fees and such), but would much rather let it go here.

Thanks! Not sure what happened on the pic, maybe if I read through those newbie forums I'll figure it out :/ When I finish detailing it this weekend, I'll upload another pic.

Thanks Cloud - like the way you put that "ex" RX7, was sorta like a bad break up. We both loved each other, but I needed two more doors! The 8 solves that problem

On the intake, I saw some new ones on ebay for under $400 - they must be getting you on the shipping.

Hi all - just a quick follow up to my original post with some updated pics.

Also, below are the compression results for the car (test done at a local Mazda dealer), the car has 51K miles/original engine. I received a passing grade, but beyond that, not sure if there is anything else I should take from it (please chime in).

Rotor #1- 8.2, 7.9, 8.0
Rotor #2 – 7.6, 7.9, 7.6

Great to be part of the community, thanks for the warm welcome!

Did they give you printed results? Knowing what the cranking RPM was would give us a better picture. But with a Series II, your cranking RPM shoudl be in the 290-300RPM range due to the upgraded starter on the S2's. So, the 7.6's are close to the borderline area.

They did not provide printed results, but your baseline is a great start (thanks for the info!). Luckily I have a few years left on the motor warranty so I'll keep a close eye on things, and get it rechecked as I get closer to expiration.

Question for you, back when I used to have my RX-7 serviced in the early 2000's - there was a mechanic (Manuel I believe was his name) that used to work out of a storage unit near Toepperwein/I35. He was a great rotary mechanic and it'd be great to reconnect. Let me know if you've by chance heard his name float around in the SA circles.

I have never heard of him. There are some local guys but none that I would trust to work on an RX-8. There is a local group (Juancho is the name IIRC) that had a drag car (Rotary powered 70's Datsun) on the series Street Outlaws but those guys don't really mess with RX-8's. I would have trusted Tito from Alamo Rotary to work on something but his shop is no longer open and he drives a Mclaren now and doesn't own any rotaries anymore.

But honestly none of us local guys use shops for anything other than for certain things we need fabricated.

I remember Tito well, bought a few parts from him back in the day. I remember he had a yellow 8 (must have been an '04?), it was brand new when I saw it, great looking car.

Appreciate the info. My name is Tim by the way, I'll try to leave a post on the SARX group soon.

I'm going to start driving the 8 as my daily, so to make room, the 3 is for sale. She's been a dependable old girl, but I can't stomach FWD any longer

Yeah Tito is great guy. He had a 20B Turbo yellow RX-8 as well as a Supra, CY FD RX-7, R35 GTR, and a BMW M4. He got rid of them all for the Mclaren.

You should come out to coffee and cars this Saturday.

That's a nice 3, my daughter totalled my Jeep so I am looking for something for her, I may have to check out your 3.

I must have seen it when it was still stock, conversation at the time (if I recall), was they were having a tough time getting the dyno up to the printed hp specs.

Coffee and Cars still at the Vineyard? I have a couple of things going on Sat morning, but I'll see if I can sneak away (no promises)...thanks for the invite, if not Sat then the next one.

My info is on the ad, let me know if you want to take her for a spin. fyi, it is a 5 speed.

Got it, I should be able to swing that. I'll plan on bringing the 8, unless you'd rather see the 3.
