Hot Start Issue

Literally never had this issue before, car started up hot or cold every time without fail. Then I come back after a 3 week vacation and my car wont turn on, seems flooded as I crank and see the gas vapor come out the back. Car finally turned on and has no issue preforming while being driven. Preforms and feels normal as I drive it. However when I turn the car off and try to start it up again while the engine is hot it fails to start. I usually must wait 5-10min for the engine to cool down before I can start the car again. When the engine is cold car starts up easily. Any ideas guys? Thanks.

This might be a symptom of low compression. I'd take it to a Mazda dealer and have them perform the rotary-specific compression test. And, of course, while you're there, describe the symptoms you're having, as you did here.

How old is your battery? 3 weeks without running isn't super long but maybe an issue if your battery was getting a little old. Might be worth getting it tested at a local auto shop. They normally have testers and will test it for free.

If your compression is fine, could also be the fuel pump overheating.
