Hot start problem on my 2004 rx8

I'm dedicated to fix my hot start problem on my 2004 rx8 with 136,xxx miles. If it needs a rebuild where can I get the parts I need. I have plenty of tools at my dads shop. All I need is to know where I can get the cheapest fix for it.

I can't really help you with the value of the car.

Hard starts could be a bunch of things.

What maintance have you done?

First have your battery checked out to make sure it's in good shape. If you've ran it low or had it replaced recently you might have burnt out your starter. If it's not battery related.

The cheapest thing to do is get a compression test done it's about 100 dollars, that will let you know if it's the engine or possiably other parts.

If you are planing on spending the money for a rebuild then I would skip the compression test and replace the coils, wires and plugs. If you do the work and hunt for the parts you can do it for 350-600USD. They need to be replaced about every 30,000 miles. Or you can upgrade the coils for a bit more money and not worry about them, but keep replacing plugs and wires every 30K miles.

The coils, wires, and plugs might fix your issue. If not Then get a compression test done and see if you need a new engine.

If the compression test is okay then a new/upgraded starter might be needed.

The starter I'm not sure but if it was the start, why would it only be when the car is hot that it won't let it turn on

hot start issues are usually a sign of low compression. do you still have a cat? get a comp test and clean the oil out of the intake and maf

If you are looking to do a rebuild, atkinsrotary.com is a good place to get the parts from. Also depending on where you are located, I believe you can ship your bare engine or take your car to Rotary Resurrection in TN and they will rebuild, clean-up & paint it, reassemble, then ship it back to you. Pricing is fairly reasonable too.

As far as your hot start issues, get underneath the car and check if you have the updated starter, make sure battery is still good, then check plugs coils and wires. Also depends on what you mean by hot start problem as the degree of the problem varies and your solution could vary depending on what you are experiencing.

By hot I mean my car is just cranking right after I turn it off. It takes about 30 minutes before I can turn it on again. I need to know what kit I specifically need. Do I have to open up the engine to see which rebuild kit I need? Should I hurry up and rebuild before it gets worse?

If it is taking that long it is probably compression. Get a compression test done.

What kit you need depends on what is damaged and how good of a rebuild you want to do. How much money are you willing to spend? My N/A rebuild with clutch and cobb ended up costing me about 8,000 and I did the rebuild myself.

Get this video and watch it then decide if you want to do the rebuild.

If you still think you want to do it then watch these videos.

The thing about a rebuild is not whether you can take it apart and put it back together again, it's whether you'll need to do it all over again in 10k miles. Ask how I know (and not even talking just rotaries). I'd recommend going with an engine rebuilt by a professional rotary rebuilder, it'll cost a bit more but you'll save yourself time.

you can use a regular compression tester to get an idea. you just have to remove the check valve in it.

Where do you live?
