How to clean AC and blower

I brought my rx8 into the Mazda dealer for a coil problme and in the process they "replaced" the cabin filters. That was about 18 months ago. Today I went to change them out because it was about time, and low and behold there weren't any cabin filters at all. I don't know how they could have pulled out the old ones and forgot to put the new ones in before closing it all up. They showed me how dirty they were so I know there were filters in my car when it arrived. So I have been driving around for 18 months without any filters. I have actually been sick a lot during the past 18 months and just now may have figured out why. Anyway, how do I clean out the blower and be such to make sure that nothing has been sucked up that may clog the blower or anything else important. I have noticed a small squeal when the ac is turned on each time. It eventually goes away after about 10-15 second. I just want to know how to make sure everything is clean so as not to cause trouble in the future. Thank you for your help.

I have never tried to remove the blower on this car, but I don't think it would be that bad. If you want to clean the evaporator, that would require the dash to be removed, which is not an easy job. I have removed one dash in my life and swore I would never do it again. It was a complete PIA. That said I don't think you have anything to warrant removal of those components. If the system still gets cold in the summer and keeps you warm in the winter, then just roll with it. Get you some filters put them in and move on.

BG has a few items which should work for you: BG Products, Inc.
It's a lot easier than R &R'ing the evaporator!
