How should it feel towards the top end
To start, I know I'm in the range for ignition replacement, but my idle and general feel through the revs is strong and smooth (ha, just remembered the fc stutter at mid rpm range).
I've been redlining it once or twice an outing, but only done 2700 miles in about 18 months. Been getting her on the road more this past week or two though and had a long drive this morning with lots of spirited moments. Maybe I just misunderstand how others are explaining it, so I looked at stock dyno charts and see only a 30 ho increase from 6-9k, and that doesn't seem like it should feel much different in actual pull feel; which for me it doesn't, just steady. The way some explain it, maybe they are embellishing, but make it sound like it should still seem noticeable, almost drastic increase in acceleration feel.
I'm not concerned, the engine feels strong even at low end, I have no problems with normal traffic at nearly any speed or rpm honestly, but I've had my experience hypermiling hybrids with less peak power than we have at 2500 rpm, so it should feel fine to me I suppose
it really doesn't take much power to move a car under normal conditions and acceleration rates. I may not have quite the same opinion if I never drove quite low power vehicles and had stuck with the super high torque large displacement engines I had at a teenager (one of them 6.6L/400 and another was a 455).
I topped off this morning and plan a mpg test tank, though not executing any hypermile texhniques, just easy, steady cruising, minimize city/idle times, etc to check that side of my engine health; even with the fun driving session, I managed over 18 mpg, but I surely drove more docile for more of the tank than others would consider a more aggressive tank. My hope is to see 24-27 mpg; I don't expect it!
So, back on point, it feels like most of the increase in comparative acceleration rate tapers off somewhere at/after 6k for me, which seems reasonable as the dyno I'm looking at only shows maybe a 15 ho difference from 7k to peak and I might be off a bit on the exact rpm, eyes on road first and all
All this is because reading people saying people don't realize how much power they are down until they replace ignition, just made me want to ask. I still need to check if the previous owner changed the ignition at 20k, as they were quite in love with the car and kept up with things really well and said they used to be on these forums so had the knowledge as well (don't remember username).
At the moment looking into finding a detailer when I have some extra cash to get out some clear coat scratches I think it collected getting the airbag recalls done, that I have no proof, and some swirls. That is something I don't want to risk messing up. I'd only go as far as light clay bar for some embedded dirt lol the overall condition of the paint is too nice.

How does one get scratches on clear coat changing air bags?
I was one of those guys that changed my ign to BHR Yukon coils kit at about 23k miles.
My scanguage registered 10 extra hp which interpollates to actual 6hp, and car had more of a growl.
One can never know when stock coils get weak, and it'll fry cat, so be sure and upgrade coils for preservation of car.

nothing but awesome - like someone is pushing you hard from the back. Point and shoot. That's a rotary.

For me it feels steady; preliminary fuel economy results just under half a tank, around 220 on trip, looking decent. It definitely doesn't feel like say a 06 si vtech kick at around the same rpm, but similar to the 13b memories from 20 years ago which cost of be a bit muddy ![Smilie](https://www.rx8club.com/images/smilies/smile.gif)
The tech was careless enough to put something on the dash that was slightly dusty and not clean it, either put fake numbers in for tires or only tested the ones that came off the car, not the ones he put on it.
The car sits in my garage when not being driven by me. I park out of the way if I go anywhere. I've looked at the car enough and this is obvious enough (above fuel fill area on top area where someone careless could've set something on it ... so very little chance I had missed this at the previous full ups. I had coolant flushed, oil and filter changed, and brake fluid flushed at same time they did the recall.
I'll probably take it easy and just a redline or two a week until I can save up for BHR ignition kit; I just spent 1800 on the kids, the car, and myself the past couple weeks, so tapped out for the moment for big ticket items. But I have a list of reliability and maintenance items to get done step by step, the only mods I really plan to do is finish replacing the rest of the bulbs with leds, set of lightweight wheels and good wetj/dry summer tires to go with them, and that is about it.
Ideas of mods is sohn, replace ast, exhaust, probably BHR headed and catted midpipe, rev8 car back, 1/2-1oz/gal premix lower temp thermostat, and some personalization and creature comfort mods/ideas based on threads I've read over the years.
She does feel smooth and doesn't lug at lower rpms either, but I'll make sure to save and get the ignition as soon as I can.
