"I don't believe in topping up the oil.."
Shopping for an 8, I asked one seller how often he tops up the oil. His response:
"I don't believe in top up's I think full oil changes are better because it prevents sludge build up, when oil burns it only gets thicker which causes a thicker Viscosity SAE in kinematic (kv) and absolute (cSt) terms. Rotary Engines automatically taps oil from the system to inject into the rotors (in the engine) to lubricate them that why everyone thinks it burns oil, however it you stay on top your oil changes the rotary engine is absolutely bulletproof. There defiantly a science behind this car but it drives like no other, smooth like cream"
I don't even know how to respond.

I normally used a quart between oil changes. If you fill it to the top of the full mark you'd still be above the low mark every 3K unless you run it super hard or have the system modified.

One of my employees has an 8 with an AT and drives it like a grandma. He never needs to top off the oil between oil changes, because he never ventures into the higher reaches of the map. I didn't believe him at first, but seeing is believing. He starts at about 1/8" below the top mark and ends up about 1/8" above the bottom mark at 4,000 miles, which is where he has his oil changed. Okey dokey then.

If he is putting mileage on the car it should be using oil. If it's not something is clogged or he has a serious vac leak.
Load does dictate somewhat of what is used but even normal operating it should be using oil.

He probbly meant to change oil like usual, without thinking adding missing oil makes your oil like new. Some ppl are just stupid enough to think that way. I would not think a mechanic would suggest you to do a full oil change everytime you add some, if he does, please don't let him touch your car ever lolll

My car, on the other hand, uses about 3 quarts between oil changes, but that could have something to do with the way I drive it.

I checked out the car. The whole situation is very strange.
The body is in very good condition but I did see some overspray in the front driver's side wheel well and a hint of rust starting in the rear wheel wells. The car pulled well but the RPM's dipped while idling at a stop light. Has a Racing Beat intake (?) and ExoticSpeed exhaust. He showed me an appraisal form from last year, and it looks like the car's only had 1k put on it since then. Also the clutch seemed a bit off.. likely needs to be replaced. The clutch prevented me from really enjoying the test drive.
