Question I Dont Know What Is Wrong...

Hello Reader,

Recently my 2004 Mazda RX-8 has been acting up and i have no idea why. Multiple things are going wrong, for example, it takes atleast 5 seconds after turning the key to start, every time i punch on the gas i hear a metal raddling sound coming from either underneath me or the back of my car, also, my car has been stalling whenever i stop at a red light or a stop sign and wont turn on again for while, the longest ive waited before it would turn on again was around 20 minutes. the car doesnt stall EVERY time but often enough. Any ideas of what could be going on or what i can do to fix this problem.

Thank You,

IsaiahTheGemini

All signs of low compression, probably coupled with a clogged/blown out catalytic converter, possibly all caused by failed ignition coils.

Sorry to say, you likely need a new engine. If you're interested in diagnosing, book a compression test at a Mazda dealer. Only Mazda can do it properly (or a rotary specialist if you happen to live near one).

Question Dear Loki

Loki,

Thank you for replying, i looked up catalytic converters and it sounds like that might be my main problem. As soon as i get back from deployment in a few days ill work on my car and keep anyone on here updated on the progress.

Those symptoms can be caused by a combination of other problems, but I agree with Loki that your first order of business is to have a rotary-specific compression test performed to find out if spending money trying to solve it in other areas is worthwhile.

In the mean time, this is a good thread to peruse for information that might shed more light on your problems:
