Welcome to the club! The link worked fine for me. What kind of rims you got? What is the set up?

On the back I got Breytons and on the front I put Kazaras on. The fronts were $59 a piece and they had 2 left, couldn't let that go ; so I took a chance with 2 different sets and I think it sort of works. The front with the black finish gives it this meaner, ready to go look, the back is more on the stylin' side.

The car is a 2004 and I got it super mint ;45k miles! Drives really well.

I bought a weapon-r Dragon intake to get started with a simple mod ; might throw on this catback I was looking it priced at $519.

Besides for this this car is all ready to go. I think the kit on it is Mazda factory installed ; has a sticker and it's so solid.

I traded my 2013 Scion Fr-S in for this. I think the Rx-8 takes it ; 240 out the box ; car is just beautiful.

But I already got a flat on the front right side! Road are total GARBAGE here!

I find it extremely neat that you traded a basically new car for a older rx8. Glad to see you made the switch. Dont think you'll regret it!

Yea. This car is takes it to the FR-S ; but that is a beautiful car as well.

I traded it in for $$$ reasons mostly ; but I really researched finding the best RX-8 and the people downstairs got one ;I drove it a few times and just KNEW IT. HAha.

Re: above : I owed Toyota $9300 and I'm in between careers now. Now I owe $5000 dead nuts on this Rx-8 and it only has 22k more miles, and I think it's the better car.

But that last line is a bit touchy ; they are both excellent cars.

out of the box the rx8 is faster than the frslow.

with that shiny new intake you put on, its now slower. put the stock one back on.

How can it be slower? The stock intake has ...10x more parts...
This intake is just pulling air in with more engineering put into it from more open space?

I already know that it pumps the car a few horses up from drivin...?

That bulky stock intake has no chance of ever going back in there. I'm already planning a quick turbo or super charger install anyhow.

I'm gonna check the Ebay value.

Also have the stock rims for sale.

Also life is about living anyway and the intake sound makes me happy...so I'd take a speed hit if I had to in order to enjoy drivin' the car more.

please search, please.

im not trying to be an ***, but this has ACTUALLY been covered a billion gazillion trillion times. (okay, maybe only a couple hundred)

you need to get accustomed to searching otherwise the rotary engine will kick you in the ***.

its a speed hit, plus inadequate filtering which can lead to a new engine.. ($5k).

theres only 2 intakes that raise the hp of the rx8 reliably. and both of them raise the hp by 1-2hp, IF THAT.

Regardless of the intake (which you should revert back to the stock one as it is a better intake than the Weapon R) you should read the 2 links posted so you can enjoy your vehicle longer. This is really a different beast than anything you have ever owned and it can be a nice vehicle for you for a long time, but it requires some maintenance (check oil regularly, replace coils/plugs/wires at 30k miles, etc) most other cars don't. If you are just happy to just drive it into the ground after a couple months and get a new car . . . well I don't know what to say about that. If you are thinking about SC or Turboing it and don't read the links, you will have a destroyed engine in . . . oh say 1 month after your mods.

The people and information here can help you have a great car, but only if you read the information. I promise if you just slap a turbo on this car (I doubt you will find an SC for this) you will blow the engine almost immediately and we will see you on these boards parting out your car for the money.

This is easy to answer:

Intakes on traditional cars add power when the factory intake is restrictive, usually for noise reasons. For example, the baffling on my 2002 Corolla that I had years ago was something like 50 feet of effective intake pathways to make the engine quieter. Getting rid of restriction will help the engine breath, and usually result in more power. The other way that intakes sometimes help with power, is that they move the intake inlet from the hot engine bay to the fresh ambient air outside of the engine bay.

Now, if you take a look at the stock intake, you will see that it is A: not restrictive at all, it's a straight shot open pipe with a HUGE filter that can flow a lot of air (the exact same filter is used on 450hp 3-root RX-8 race cars, it flows that well). and B: It already is seeing cool air from in front of the radiator.

Now take a look at your Weapon-R (which has been proven to be the worst brand-name intake for the RX-8).

You now have the inlet in the engine bay, which gets over 200F under normal driving. It is also no longer a straight pipe. It has a bend far too close to the MAF, which DOES affect the readings. If you open up the pipe, I bet that you will also find that you don't have either of the 2 air straightening screens that the stock intake has. They are not restrictive, and they DO help power by providing a consistent smooth airflow across the MAF. Additionally, your filter is way smaller. This means that either A: it flows just as much, but doesn't filter nearly as well (read: engine damage possible from breathing sand/dust/dirt), or B: It filters fine, but flows WAY less than the stock filter. (or C: Both filters worse and flows less)

So you have gotten rid of the cold air in favor of hot air, you have added bends to the intake, you have screwed with the MAF's ability to see clean stable airflow, and you have put on an inferior filter.

You hear a few horses for sure... they used to be going into your engine, and now they are escaping from the intake.

Yes, it's a downgrade. A bad one. The worst one possible that has a brand name on it in fact. The only way you can get worse is to go to a no-name ebay intake. Not only are you down on power, but your idle stability will begin to suffer as the MAF starts screwing with fuel trimming, and you will likely start throwing CEL codes for lean, rich, MAF problems, and the like. It's happened to other weapon-r owners time and time and time again.

There are only 2 intakes which do NOT cause problems. One is AEM, one is Racing Beat. If you can't get either of those, put the stock intake on. If you insist that you, who are new to the car, know more than the rest of the community combined, then well... have fun swimming upstream.

Welcome! Take the advice! The members here are very knowledgable, a lot of piston-mod staples just don't apply to the rotary

Check out this page for mods!

Haha, I'm aware of the current of limits of my mechanical knowledge. I am on the reply screen and can't see the name of the person, but a long and technical explanation of that sort goes a long way.
