I need help from rx8 owners about pipe and carbon monoxide

Hey Im a new owner of a 2007 rx8 gt Manual with a straight pipe,
My parents hate it actually because of the noise, the vibration and the smell ahahah... BUT they told me about carbon monoxide and they try to make me change for a full mid pipe with cat and mufflers but I dont want to btw Im from Montreal area so its ******* cold and my car is parked in my driveway and doesnt move

So my questions is:
-Is it normal that I can smell it inside my car ?
-How do I check by myself and if I do have a leak, how to fix it?
-What are the alternative more neighboor/parents friendly for my straight pipe without changing everything cuz I still want to be kinda loud ahah?
- Or what habits I must do if I dont want to get yell at when Im going for a drive?

If you answer I should be super reactive cause I stress a lot because of that thk you !!

The noise can be reduced if you put a resonator or 2 in the midpipe.
The smell is a bit more difficult. The extra fuel that isn't burnt comes out the tailpipe... and without a CAT it smells. Make sure you don't have a leak though... check around the midpipe when it's running and you shouldn't see any leaks or puffs of smoke. Also check around the shifter boot to make sure its sealed properly too...

Okay so I should look the midpipe alright, Im gonna look at it but do you know if a straight pipe can be dangerous for the carbon monoxide ?

Usually CO isn't a problem uses you are running the car in a confined space such as a garage... CO is colorless and odorless... so it isn't the smell problem..

Carbon monoxide isn't a problem unless like danoobre said, you run the car indoors. But if you're accumulating exhaust in the cabin you might still get high enough concentration. It *should* be fine, but if you get headaches after driving it might not be only the loud-*** exhaust. Also, breathing exhaust isn't exactly better, it's a carcinogen.

Also be aware if you use the 'fresh air' mode for your AC/heater, you'll pull outside air in, possibly exhaust fumes (especially in reverse) as opposed to the cabin 'recirculate' mode.

I have a resonated midpipe which pushes out very rich exhaust smell, especially at first start in the morning. At stop lights with a breeze/wind from behind you will smell the exhaust with open windows or like BC mentioned, with fan on fresh air setting. Make very sure you check the gaskets at either end of the midpipe flanges. I had an issue with leaks that burnt the heat shielding. I’ve had carbon monoxide poisoning in the past on boats. Don’t ignore this, passing out isn’t fun

There is no getting away with the smell if you run a catless exhaust. Don't idle. Just keep on moving.
Mine only smells if I am not moving say at a prolong traffic light. I am sure folks behind me aren't a fan.

I would go crazy with a straight-pipe set up. The rasp is just horrible with NA rotary engines.
