I see my sexy beast!!!!Maybe...
So I've got my eyes rather glued to and rx-8....I won't name names, but it's some one selling on here. I did the basic run down of questions, and for the most part it sounds great. There were a few things that stood out; 1. He's had the same coils since 2007, when he got the cat and the coils replaced.(Via warranty) The second thing is he's a plane ticket away from me so if I fly out there, it's to buy the car. Due to that I requested a compression test before flying out there, but his response was, " There's still a year left on the warranty but if you want to do a test for your piece of mind, you can after you buy it." I don't know if this is common around here or if I my yellow flags should be red all over.

I'd pass on it if he's not willing to let you do this before buying. Sounds a bit shady to me.....or he doesn't really want to sell the car.

I don't know.. but it's by far the best deal I can find around here, good miles less than 50k 2006 rx-8 at a great price. I may try to find some one for him to go to get it done at and ask if he'll do it if I pay. If he won't... then I'll just go cry in a corner.

It is in his best interest to have the compression test done. Refusing to do it, even at your cost, means he is either hiding something or isn't interested in knowing about the car he is selling.
I'd point that out to him, and if he responds unfavorably, walk. It will not be worth it to buy a rotary and THEN find out that the engine is bad. Plenty of people run across that, namely because of the number of people that feel like the engine is going and dump it.
If the engine is bad and it's under warranty, he has EVERY best interest in finding out and getting it replaced, since he can ask for more money at that point. He also has a vastly better chance of getting the replacement done under warranty than you will, as an existing owner with "presumably" better records than you will have.

Exactly, the fact that there is technically a year left under the warranty doesn't mean much. Plenty of people have been denied engine replacements under warranty. So if you do get it, you had better get all of the oil change receipts as well.

Well guys I fail ~_~ I completely miss-read the email on my phone this morning it WAS " this should give you enough time to diagnose any engine problems but you are welcome to do a compression test for your peace of mind if you decide to buy it" Not as bad as I had thought it sounded, I'm sorry . BUT still not much better, as I won't decide to buy it unless I see the compression chart.

Well that is good. I don't prefer 5W-20 oil but if it was changed often enough then the engine should be in good shape. That is, if the rest of the regular maintenance was done which I imagine it would have been if he took it to the dealer for oil changes.

Is there a cool guys/gals chat room that anyone hangs out in? I went to the IRC but that seems to be long dead. I just want to chat and jump head first into my "love triangle".

Well I'll try to throw one up, just to give it a shot. freenode Web IRC (qwebirc)

Chat's up and running But it looks like I'll need to find a new rx-8 that's owned by some one that actually knows what a rotary is.... which I'm finding out isn't very many people within 250 miles of Minneapolis. The current one doesn't think it's worth the effort to sell it to me. The, "100$ for a compression test, plus a 10% chance of you actually buying it = 1000$ total expense.", I give up on him :'(

When I bought mine about 14 months ago there weren't many out there either in the Minneapolis area. I got lucky and found my 2009 R3 as a for sale by owner. Wasn't out there very long before I snatched it up.
