Installing bilstein b14 coilovers- bumpstops?

I will be installing a set of bilstein b14/pss coilovers some time this week. I have not received them yet, but photos show a pretty rudimentary bumpstop and the spring rates imply a more oversteer-prone car. I'm inclined to order some short-ish MCU bumpstops and install a taller and/or firmer stop at the front of the car. Idea being the car will tend to understeer when it crashes in to the stops. I'd appreciate a more experienced opinion.

Car is a 2011 r3, currently on stock (worn) suspension. Dedicated 2nd vehicle; it only gets taken out for fun and for driving events. Thanks.

PSS is supposed to be a made for purpose system, I wouldn't mess with it until you have at least driven them. Feedback on them around here has been very positive, so I suspect the problem you're expecting doesn't really manifest.

What about them looks rudimentary?

They''re hard rubber cylinders, rather than shaped urethane bits. Not faulting bilstein here, they don't know how the rest of the suspension will be set up and the stock bumpstops are a very inexpensive solution. There's a lot of room for improvement. I would expect MCU bumpstops, and taller/firmer ones in front to encourage the car to understeer when the suspension crashes down over a road undulation.

Was hoping someone had done some experimenting and had some wisdom to impart. Save me the trouble of sorting it for myself.

There's a heap of discussion about these coilovers and bumpstop tuning in one of the threads i'm not allowed to participate in. I read >500 comments before i realized i'm not allowed to participate. The chatter is from 2010 and it looks like the active participants have moved on.

This is disappointing. The rando who commented here is out of his depth. Why does this forum exist? It feels like this forum is here to kill the rx8.

Is there another forum that active rx8 enthusiasts have moved to? Really disappointed; if the moderators don't want to moderate it's time to hand the job over to someone else.

Likely you will get a lot of help around here with an attitude. 😉

Usually starting out this way won't get you the information you are looking for.

Maybe try again? The rules are here for a reason....

You could have repeated that the stock tune is good. Or linked me this flawed application guide. Or not participated at all, like you did until i complained about the shitty moderation.

If that's your attitude please do us rx-8 owners a favor and close down the site, or hand off moderation to more responsible folks. As it is it just encourages forum regulars (and moderators) to discourage new participants to the forum. It gives new rx owners the impression that us rotary peeps are *********, when only a few of us are.

I just installed a pss setup on my car and had no issues with the bump stops. They are basic but functional. The balance of the car did not change when going from stock. I would try it first as delivered and then adjust as needed.

highfive on the new coils! You and me both buddy, i'm finishing my swap tomorrow.

I'm gonna leave them alone initially too. It takes a while to get familiar with the car with new suspension, and even longer to recognize behavior that can be improved with tweaking the bumpstops. I haven't driven the 8 with fresh suspension in years, so that's gonna take some acclimatization in itself. Also the included bumpstops are cheap, but they're not as primitive as the photos imply. The included bumpstops are fine for today.

Your attitude will result in a vacation if you persist.

If you don't like opinions..... don't ask for them.

And don't post personal attacks on.members that try to help you

My participation in this thread is due to your lack of adherence to the rules.... so you had better figure out how you want to portray yourself going forward

Retire. There's no shame in it. You were part of something. Creating drama like this is embarrassing for all of us.

There aren't enough rx8s to support both your ego and a community. Make the sacrifice.

FB69:

It has become apparent to myself and the moderator team that it is you who indeed needs to check his ego at the door. This a community with tremendous amounts of knowledge and helpful members but unfortunately you do not seem capable of interacting with them without feeling the need to lob insults.
You have been a member for only 5 days and have already repeatedly broken the very first rule in our Forum Rules of Conduct

1. Attacks on moderators will not be tolerated, and may result in an immediate permanent ban. Moderators sometimes have to make difficult judgment calls, but remember we *are* human (well at least most of us are!) Hopefully we'll make decisions that are considered "correct" by the majority of the community. Do not post complaints, criticisms, or moderation questions on the forum. These posts will be deleted and no explanation will be given. If you have a concern about a particular moderator, send a private message to a Super Moderator or Administrator. And if you have constructive suggestions on improvements that can be made to the forum or its moderation, please post them in the Suggestions area.
We do not now nor will we ever tolerate attacks on the Moderator Team.

Goodbye FB69.

Really???

We need more rx8 enthusiasts, but not with the attitude you are displaying. Learn to play nice and maybe you can come back.
