Introducing myself to the forum
Hello fellow RX-8 owners /operators
Want to introduce myself, been lerping on the sidelines now for a bit. I own a 2009 RX8 GT and am loving it. I have had it now for 3 years and recently had to make some costly improvements to keep her operational. Mazda rebuilt the engine and installed an aftermarket exhaust just to keep her going down the road.
The forum has provided a wealth of information so far, and I am grateful for it. This is my first used vehicle since 2007, when I bought my first new vehicle that inspired my screen name, the 350Z, may she RIP.
My purchase of the RX-8 was serendipitous. After managing several difficult life events, I had to give up my self-built Jeep Rubicon and was in need of a replacement that was reliable and affordable. Glad I didn't do that.
I was on a lot in an area with a heavy concentration of dealers and without realizing stepped onto an exotic car lot. Seeing Ferraris and Porches all around me, I was high tailing it back to the affordable used vehicles when I was approached by the sales guy. Joking, I asked If there was anything on the lot >10K. He pointed to my RX8 and offered her up for 8K. One test drive is all it took. Fast-forward 3 years, add a rebuilt engine with performance exhaust, and here I am. I have done the ignition upgrades, replaced the coil overs and can say with certainty, on twisty track she would have given the Z a run for her money. The more I learn about her, the more impressed I am.
Currently, I am restoring her.
Mechanically challenged, I rely heavily on this forum and YouTube to sort out the DIY. I am so grateful that many of you have gone through what I am about to do. Truly, thank you all for doing all the hard bits for me. If I ever see any of you out and about, I will happily buy you a beer and say cheers!
