Any recommendations on do's and don'ts parts to always replace and stuff like that

Don't DIY. Buy a known good rebuild from Mazda or a reputable shop. It will cheaper/faster/more reliable.

Red line envy

Replace everything you can. Take your time and double check all clearances on every seal. It's alot but it not rocket science.

DON'T attempt a DIY unless you're 100% sure you can do it successfully.
Otherwise you're going to waste a lot of time and money.

Hope you know what you are getting yourself into here. This can be a very labor intensive and expensive operation depending on what you're gonna need once you crack open the sandwich.

Lol yup, you had some serious problems but glad you sorted them out. I'll never do a rebuild when I can just swap a known good engine in. I unfortunately just do not have the time to learn how to correctly perform a rebuild. I am aware of how its done but haven't actually done one personally. learning what I could on my own made me certain that a rebuild would be far beyond my abilities and budget.

Oh I was well deep into issues, but there is a lot to learn and a lot of tests that I did over the years.
