Just bought a 2006 RX8! with 92xxx miles!

So I live in a small town in Iowa. Car is from Florida! My question is can I run 87 (regular) gas? Otherwise we only have 91 about 15-20 minutes away? Would it be ok to run the 87 and every now and then put the 91 in? Is the 91 enough? Simple answers please! Thanks guys!

The owner's manual specifies 91, so that's good enough. I wouldn't run 87 regularly.

Welcome and congrats! You should just check on the oil every other time you fill. You CAN run on 87, but that is not recommended or advised. Lowest you should go for regular filling is 89, stay at 91 if possible, and ONLY use 87 if you HAVE to, literally, have to.

If you haven't already make sure to read, and re-read this thread https://www.rx8club.com/new-member-f...t-here-202454/

Search for yourself what oil you should use, not that hard.

Congrats and welcome to the club!
I also live in Iowa and have an 06 with ~91k. Shipped mine up from Texas though. It's weird how similar our cars are from just that standpoint lol.

Where about in Iowa are you located? If you don't mind my asking.

Do you have 89 octane E15 available? It should make more power open loop due to slight enleanment (fix-a-fat) but closed loop will accommodate the fuel at a stoichiometric cruise.

I recommend using real oil. No fake stuff.

Real vs. Synthetic is an age old argument. You will have to make that decision for yourself.

I'm sure a quick search will easily bring up that thread. I don't remember exactly what it's called or I would just link it for you.

Congrats...
You can run 87 but it will hurt your compression in the long run..89 Octane is still safe If you feel enginig knocking, then replace your fuel asap.

Oil, don't use synthethic if you don't have sohn adapter.
I was running GTX, Pemnzoil 10w 30 switched to mobil now 10w30 I liked penzoil highmileage in my piston engine wasn't the same feeling in Rotary. I like the mobil for now
