Just what the doctor ordered

That's how it gets done.
I wonder how RX-8 owners deal with the loss of perfect balance when they run low on fuel. Or god forbid a passenger gets in.

40th anniversary Edition
The OP is building a finely balanced race/drift car so yes it will change his handling on the track as he uses up his fuel. And the weight of the driver matters also. As any racer knows, the handling of a finely balanced car will change as the weight of the car shifts and changes.
In all racing forms from NASCAR, IMSA, INDYCAR and F1 the cars have adjustments that either the driver makes from the cockpit or is done by sophisticated computer as the weight changes and shifts with fuel use. Or the driver just compensates in how he drives the car around the track. I remember in covering Indycar as a journalist that as driver great A.J. Foyt started packing on the pounds they had to shift the balance of his car to compensate. And I know from covering NASCAR, that Tony Stewart ,who is no lightweight any more, has the weight moved around in his car to adjust, different than the car setup for some of the lightweights he competes against.(all of course while staying within the NASCAR specs) But of course you knew this from your own first-hand on track observation, or your own racing experiences , right. LOL
I am sure the OP will find his right balance on the car for the track and have loads of fun with it.
And yes Kickerfox, the balance of my RX8 does change when I have passengers aboard or have a full or low fuel tank. There is so much handling capability in the RX8, that this is never a problem for street driving at all, but I am surprised if you never noticed this .

-.-" I was being sarcastic.
I'd much rather deal with static changes (that I can compensate for) then dynamic changes (that I CAN'T compensate for). You acted as if a little weight change to the vehicle was going to completely destroy it's perfect handling. I was sarcastically pointing out the other dynamic variables that make far more change in day to day handling.
Don't get me wrong. It's a great handling car but many of you worship it like a shrine. Kind of creepy actually. It's just a car.
Of course the OP will find the balance and have a blast with it. I'm sure he's done his research, balanced the pros and cons, and came to his conclusions.

I'm not here to rustle any jimmies....
But I'll likely just gut it, build it and enjoy it as is. Sure the weight distribution may change from what Mazda had originally designed, but the suspension setup and overall chassis design is pretty solid from the looks of it. So I'm sure it'll retain some of that original handling, but likely not all of it.
I mean after all, it's a project for me to mess around with and have fun. I'm not trying to be a serious racer aiming for a podium finish every time I take it out.

Don't worry, kickerfox is just a little riled up because he keeps arguing (with literally everyone) that the Isuzu he's swapping into his rx8 is God's gift to the world in terms of engine performance, perfection, reliability, and graphs. It doesn't help that he's not very good at getting his point across and has relatively little to show for the length of time it's taking.
It's been happening on allot of topics on this forum recently. Just be cautions following the advice of others, most of their reasonings have no basis in reality.

I haven't made such claims. It's "just an engine" (with various qualities that work to MY advantage in both versatility and cost) and I've stated that. I merely explained why I chose that engine for MY purposes. The graphs were also for my benefit to help me compare the transmission ratios of the v6+MA5 vs. the Renesis+6-speed. I wouldn't want a 4:1 first gear with a 4.44 final if I had a 4500RPM redline now would I? I'm sure the OP is going to be doing the same thing for the SR20 trans. Until you overlay the rpm plots, or drive the car, you'll never know if the ratios are adequate for the purpose of the vehicle. It's more cost productive to graph it then to keep swapping transmissions and hope you get it right. Especially in my case since what I'm doing hasn't been done before. I didn't post the information for forum approval although there are many who love the build but they choose to tell me in a PM to avoid being crucified in public. Can't blame them.

Kicker has one hell of a build thread, and if there's anything I've noticed it's that he's thorough. No stone unturned during the research stage will surely culminate in one hell of a ride with one hell of an engine.
Do it right the first time and never have to touch it again!
Can't wait to see that thing ripping it up and down the street
