I have just bought an rx8 this week and I am working my way thorough a few teething issues as I get to know the vehicle and this forum has already been very useful - thanks.
I have read many threads but I am looking for advice from someone who as actually solved this problem
I have one cc type remote with its key.
I want to create a spare(s).
I know I can not use the two key system to code a new ignition key.
However can I code a new credit card style remote? There seems nobody can confirm success with this ( other than via the dealership )
If not can I code a three button style fob remote to access the vehicle?
Has anybody used a reader to access codes relating to the key?
Where on the car are the transponder type listed - the seems to be nothing on the key or remote that I can see?

Thanks for any replies.

What year is your RX-8 and how many sets of keys do you have? I think you have a better chance of reprogramming a set of switchblades than a credit card key. Check these links below, instructions are fairly simple: DIY: Code Your Own Key Remote, Switchblade Key on an '04.

thanks Grace
I read your posts on this matter on previous threads.
XR8 is Oct 2005 build.
I notice you think it is not possible / difficult to program a credit card style remote. The other I know you can program with or without others. Will other remotes be able to operate the keyless entry system though?
Regarding the issue with keys, this is less urgent as I have a physical key with the cc remote and the button unit inserted on the ignition barrel so hence I effectively have a spare.
In the ideal world I would like two complete sets of remote and keys plus an extra physical key ( which I can code from the two previously mentioned ) My big worry is if I lose the cc remote I have no means of gaining entry to and start the vehicle - this seems far to risky!!
I know that the dealers will charge a lot to help me out here and the local locksmiths seem unable to assist.
