That's the beauty of getting old. Experience and we know our stuff. At least some of us. The drawback is the body doesn't cooperate with our mind.

Decided to go with Continental again. Not only did Discount tire give me $70 off each tire but there was a rebate for another $70. So I got them for $103 each. Plus these are the upgraded tires, the EC Sport which have 20% better wear, they strengthened the side wall and significantly improved handling.

I am still looking for any suggestions to make adjustments to the alignment specs to possibly help lessen the cupping. I am holding off on mounting the new tires until I can correct this issue. Thanks.

well the typical old guy that thinks he knows his stuff also tends to think as long as the wheels didn’t fall off then the shocks are still just fine ...

I'm not that old yet. And yes I had the shocks checked by Mazda. And yes I am very well informed and have done everything to maintain this car. Probably some would say OCD. Including upgraded starter, new ignition, fresh fluids, premix yada, yada, yada.

And in my father's day, they would call you a young whipper snapper. 😝😝😝

I doubt it since I may be as old or older than you, but why don’t you tell us what shocks are on there and how many miles are on them?

Original shocks. 37k miles on the car. Guy at Mazda said shocks on the rx8 don't usually go bad. They have not seen a lot of shock replacement. He has been with Mazda 15 years.

Correction: you're an OLD whipper snapper. 🤪🤪🤪

I’ve seen people mention that the shocks go at an average of 50-60K miles

2nd owner replaced tires at 23k miles. I bought the 3rd set but am waiting til the end of summer to put them on. Probably at 40k or a little higher as there is still some life especially on the rears which were rotated from the front. Tire guy said if Mazda said shocks were ok, to make sure I rotate frequently. This could help avoid cupping. Keep in mind part of the wear is my driving. I love doing curves at high speeds especially on the mountain roads of Colorado.

Would you say that is a common occurrence ? That might be a good thing to search for as I am now curious. If I can't find much maybe I'll start a new thread.

Did extensive research and found a lot of people have had to replace shocks. Found one or two where shocks went bad under 10k miles. Like I've seen on this forum, most Mazda dealers don't know what they are talking about. While I'm not experiencing any symptoms of bad shocks except maybe the cupping, I probably should get them rechecked elsewhere.

The OEM shocks are Beilstein off the shelf components made for performance and likely not so much for road hazard use.

Most people aren’t going to Mazda for shocks; I would tend to think 30k-50k miles for OE shocks. Just like I said before though, unless there is an obvious problem most people think they’re just fine. They don’t recognize the difference until after the change. The same between old and new tires. They always think the new tires are so great, not recognizing how poor the old tires slowly became over time such that they didn’t fully perceive the change.

I thought those shocks were exclusive to the Shinka.

they are, a few other select models too. I want to say the typical sport shocks were maybe Tokico.
