Looking for opinions on a possible RX8
I'm only 18 (been on the this site since I was 15 so I've read a good deal about these cars) and I've found this 2007 RX8 for $9.5k with 61k miles at a used dealer a state over. It seems like a good deal if I could get the price down a bit. I think 8k would be fair after seeing whats a normal price near me. They've been sitting on it for 5.5 months and I think I could work them down. The only major thing I've found so far is that it has had 4 owners and been to auction like 3 times. That's throwing a bit of a red flag to me, what do you guys think?

Are you getting the auction and ownership information from Carfax? Could be that dealerships registered the car for personal use and eventually brought it to auction because there wasn't enough interest.
Compression test is key though, like Soldier said.

It's an 07 so it's out of engine warranty. I'd suggest going for something a bit more recent of you can swing it, with warranty. If this is not a Mazda dealer, even if you buy their extended warranty, they won't know what to do with the car.
I bring this up because of the car's mixed history. It may not have been maintained as it should have been since kot every owner knows what they're doing. This raises the risk of engine trouble later in life. So if you have to foot the engine bill, about 5K, it might be wiser to buy a better car for 5k more now and have peace of mind and warranty coverage. That's how I'd think about it anyway.
The compression test is everything, if it comes back stellar then the risk of this car developing problems any time soon is much lower. Also, if this is not a Mazda dealer, they don't have the equipment to perform a proper compression test, they'll have to bring it to Mazda or a rotary shop with the right tools. Don't let anyone tell you different.

Hello and welcome to our happy community!
Looks pretty clean from the pictures. Just because it's been to an auction doesn't mean it's a bad car. I bought my car from an auction in Japan. No issues with the car *touches wood*
Like everyone else said, compression test before buying. Not the other way around.
Good luck!
