Loss of power engine sputters
Hey everybody new owner to the RX8 world, iv havnt had any problems with my 2006 RX8 till just last week, when i started up just like any other day and about 3 mins down the road my car starts to sputter and lose power and then it gains it back really quick, that lasts for about a mile then it goes into a constant sputter if i go into any kind of idle with the gas and at that point its random and speratic wether or not i get a boost of power back to normal at all and if i let it go idle at all or stop, the engine just stops but all lights, radio, and everything are still on and working. i can usually start the car back up at this point but i have to cram on the gas pedal to barely get it to move amd i can barely get the rpms up. i would really appreciate any kind of help on the matter as i have never come across this in any car iv owned.

Did your check engine light come on? If so, did it flash or stay on? If it flashed, you are suffering from misfires. If it stayed on, it is something else. Either way, you need to have the codes read, which you can do for free at Autozone. Post the codes here, and we will try to help you.
What is the history of the car? Has it ever had its ignition coils, wires, and spark plugs replaced? These are wearable items on this car, and the coils sometimes fail at 20K mile intervals.
The RX-8 requires a little extra care and feeding, and if you are willing to put forth the effort, it will be as reliable as any other car.

If you have an Android, you can get the Torque app for 5$ and an OBD Bluetooth dongle for around $30, read and clear codes, monitor engine systems, pretty cool app.
Be careful if you DIY to not cross your wires.
Maintenance is pretty easy on 8s if you have some mechanical aptitude.
Plenty of DIY threads here and advice if you need it.
Coils, plugs, & wires every 30k miles.
If you don't know the last time they were done, do them now.
Also clean your ESS & MAF sensor, and change your air filter.
Kind of a PITA, but it will make it easier to clean your ESS if you remove the whole air box.
Then do the 20 brake stomp when you're finished.
Also would be a good idea to get your catalytic converter inspected.
Misfires kill cats, bad cats kill engines.
Good luck!
