Lots of smoke and oil coming out of exhaust
Hi, I own a '09 MT S2, 30k miles on it and just had a engine rebuild due to a blown side seal.
I was crusing at 25miles per hour when I see from my rear view mirror a massive cloud of pale smoke. Car was still running okay, no hesitations. I pull over and turn off the car. I try to start it again and i see flashing the low oil level indicator. I pull out the codes and I got p1680, p1684, p1685, P0661(SSV solenoid valve control circuit low), and a other codes concerning the OCV, Metering Pumps, VDI, PURGE SOLENOID, etc.
So I thought that maybe it was a blown fuse and in fact it was. EGI Comp1 fuse was blown. So i replace it for a new one, and pull out the codes and they are all gone. I also checked my coolant and oil level and noticed coolant was ok (on H mark) but oil was almost one quart low, and I always check oil level before leaving.
So now I am clueless since I have no codes and every time I start the car a massive cloud of smoke comes out of the exaust + oil. By now the spark plugs must be completely bathed in oil. I am guessing that either the OCV or the Metering Pumps are stuck open and letting in massive amounts of oil into the combustion chamber. Could oil go in the combustion chamber from another place?? Or besides that the only thing left are bad oil control rings?? Please help

Ok so I did a test and detached the exhaust from the header and noticed that the engine is not producing the smoke. So I will take out the entire exhaust system and clean it for oil leftovers from when it was throwing oil. I noticed also that the short was produced by a molted oil sensor connector that was left unplugged. Maybe that caused the PCM to go crazy and to send wrong voltage either to the metering pumps or the OCV. Anyways, I will clean it and will be back with answers.

Rebuild was done using the rotors, housings and irons that I previously had. Shaft, oil pump, and everything else was new. Engine wasn't replaced by warranty because I live in Panama and dealerships don't honor those types of warranty. They are the worst here in Panama.

Hrmm. There's really no good reason for the engine to be pumping oil out the exhaust. I can't think of how that could happen except for oil control ring failure (or you had a turbo and the turbo oil bearing grenaded).
Sorry man, I think your rebuild is no good :/ It could have something to do with reusing irons that were out of spec or the rebuild itself could have been done poorly, or the break-in was not performed correctly. Might have to start taking things apart.

Hard to see how a engine that blew a sideseal (I assume you do mean rotor side seal, not waterseal) would not need a new rotor and housing
If they used a shitlosd of oil in the engine build, maybe thats where it came from?

Ok, so I did used new rotors since the blown rotor side seal chipped one of the faces of the rotor. The housings, I don't know why were intact, I literally have no idea how happened.
And no, that happened like 5 days after the rebuild. But what I can't understand is that okay the blown egi comp1 fuse caused the mop and ocv to go crazy since it supplies the voltage to those systems. The short was corrected ( oxygen sensor conector was melted to the exhaust manifold), and the car currently has no mid pipe or catback to verifyit does not smokes anymore. How can that amount of oil went there??

Ok, same thing just happened to my 09 for other people's future reference: The OMPs can't flow that much oil is a series 1 answer. I can confirm that on S2s the OMPs can and will flow an amount of oil to cause this amount of smoke to be present. Exact same issue happened to me, same fuse P1680 trouble code.
