Hey guys need some help/info. My son just bought a 2004 RX8 manual. The other day he was showing me something on a drive. I noticed that the stick shift jumps a good few inches up when he shifts. I thought maybe it was a tranny mount. I now see that they do not exist. It is just engine mounts and the brace that runs from the tranny to the rear. First question, is that much upward motion normal for the tranny to lift the gear shift that much inside the car? I have driven manuals all my life but never had one jump. Second question, do the motor mounts need to be replaced? Third question, are there mounts on the rear end that may need replaced as well that could cause this? Thanks for any help/advice!!
Also is there a good brand that will hold up longer to a 17 year olds driving conditions? Would like to put something in that will have longer life expectancy.

Since he just bought a 16 year old rotary, you may want to read up on rx8help.com to avoid future problems. There is a Potential Owners section that covers the important things to know.
^^ is right, in most cases on this car OEM parts are best. The motor mount design was revised a couple of times since 2004. Unless youre racing, there is nothing to be gained, and comfort to be lost, by going to poly mounts, but should you choose to go that route, Black Halo Racing is good place to start.
