UK Misfiring Problems

Hello guys,

I am relatively new to this and wondered if anyone could help? I have an R3 and I am having horrendous misfiring issues when I rev my car over 5000 rpm. I had the coils changed, the wires and HT leads by Mazda as this is what they said the issue was, but the problem is still continuing. They then told me that it was a problem with the SSV valve, which I got changed. The problem still existed.

I read on many forums here and it said it would more than likely be the cat that is causing the problems, with it probably being clogged. So I got a new one, and just had it replaced and its still glowing bright red, with the garage telling me that I have an engine problem. Mazda have also told me that they have minimal idea about what they are doing with RX8's. I wish they had told me that at the beginning but oh well.

If anybody has any thoughts about what it might be, it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!
Charlie

I apparently got news coils, HT leads and spark plugs when the car went in first for misfiring, but I don't believe a word of what Mazda said, so I am pretty unsure about it. I am still waiting for the paperwork to come through from May with the work that they done.

from may???????? listen you need to read the new owners thread a few times. seriously.

failing ignition leads to clogged cat which leads to failed motor.

miles on car?
trans?
need to know history
has the maf and ess been cleaned? 20 brake stomp?

lots of questions but i highly suggest you do a little reading

Yeah, I had the ignitions changed in May. The car has just been sitting on my drive ever since. It's an R3 with 70k miles on the clock, manual transmission. MAF has been cleaned, brake stomp has been done. Spoke to Ben at Rotary Revs and he thinks that there is no problem with the engine, its the ignition part.

I don't see mention that the catalytic converter has been checked. You'll want to do that before the engine is further damaged. Do not drive it in this condition.

Awesome, thanks for that. I will get these checked out. The cat has been changed, I just had a brand new one put on and it glowed red right away.

If its glowing it could already be destroyed. Further evidence for those ignition coils. All this stuff is easy to do yourself, you may want to get it out of Mazda's hands (and get your money back?). The dealer mostly just needs to know how to follow the shop manual, Mazda leaves little room for improvisation with those. So if they don't know ehat they're doing, it implies thry don't know how to read a book.
