Missfire, then hold cel

Missfire, then hold cel
so ive tried lookin (im always on the forums for fun at work) but cant seem to find an answer to my problem. About a week or two ago i had a random missfire during start up (revved to 3k to warm up, hit the power bit to hard and it missfired at 5k) figured it was fine, my fault not biggy but today during warm up i revved to 3k, held and she missfired once and gave a hold on the cel. I drove to work testing for missfire and watching and listening but didnt seem any different, i revved and held at 8-9k for ten secounds and nothing then 6k for a bit and nothing and finaly drove normal and still nothing. no real power loss felt and no more missfire but still the cel is staying on. i turned off and on (without starting) 10times then starting the car but still holding the cel. My cat is stock and i dont really see it glowing but she is putting out ALOT of heat that i can see after the cars off. i dont have an obdII reader but ill be bring it to a friend tommorow to scan it.
Any ideas on i should check out for? Think its ok to drive till something further happens?
Im assuming its the cat gone or my maf needs a cleaning. Ignition is fine, but is being redone in a week after my BHR kit arrives.

Hey Genesis, blinking CEL usually means misfire. Try this thread for info: https://www.rx8club.com/showthread.p...42#post4558742
I suggest you sort that out fist before driving your car. You might want to check your Cat as well. It could possibly be on its way out. Misfires + clogged Cat = dead motor.
Good luck!

a12, a flashing CEL is ALWAYS a misfire, not "usually". In the list of CELs from the factory documentation, the 3 misfire codes are the only ones that are indicated as "Flash" in the CEL Light column.

I read the post for suffering from a misfire, i read it a couple time and last time it was the ignition system which was helpful. No it only misfires once and then just holds on the light (no blinking) sorry if i wasn't clear enough. Its not misfiring anymore, just the light is on. Please read the whole paragraph before assuming (sorry if im coming off as rude, just feels like that was posted before reading anything).

Clear the code, see if it comes back, go from there. It may have just thrown a code during the cold rev/misfire (O2 maybe?) and needs to be cleared.
Could be weakening ignition causing a too rich reading. You say the ignition is fine, but is that based on age or actually testing? Coils can fail much earlier than 20-30k sometimes, plugs can foul, etc

Well a misfire cold can mean the fuel goes through without burning up in the exhaust, since its not hot enough. I'm not sure how long the car would hold that CEL though, I don't actually have first hand experience with CEL in an 8, but I have had cars that won't clear them on their own
