MPG increase with ECU chip

Hi, so I'm new to this forum and I'm planning on getting an rx8. I love how it looks, handles and its acceleration but it has terrible mpg (I've heard that its around 17-18 mpg). Also it only costs 4000 Canadian dollars. So, I was wondering if there was a way to decrease the mpg by tuning it.

Ok before before everyone goes crazy on their keyboards. Let me say that I don't expect to get the same consumption as lets say a civic or a corolla.

Ok now that I got that out of the way. I was wondering if it was possible to increase the fuel economy by tuning the rx8 with one of those eco chips via OBD2. Ive heard that you can program them to decrease the fuel intake so that your AFR is leaner to increase fuel efficiency. My idea was that when I didn't need the power I could just plug in the chip in the obd2 port to decrease my fuel intake to get better mpg. But when I needed power I could just unplug the chip.

Short answer, those eBay chips don't do anything.
Also be real careful with an rx8 that only costs 4K, it may need an engine.

Welcome to the forum!

You might want to read the stickies a few times to grasp a better understanding of what this " little Fire-Breathing Monster" is all about..

Simplest answer to your questions is, NO Chips whatsoever.. Period! and 17-18mpgs are on a good day.

Realistic Data is as follows; my premium gas costs $60 to fill.. lasts me 320km on a good day.
Now, I push my car every chance i get, I redline it, stay at 5K rpm for the most part

Also, an rx8 for 4K may be a hit and miss in GTA area. You must get it compression tested..

Or better yet, check out my car, see how it feels and then you can compare it with other rx8's it may not be a fair comparison since my motor is ported but you may get an idea.

My Key advise would be, don't jump the gun, be patient and keep looking for that best deal :-)

All the best with your search :-)

Whew gas must be higher in Canada but yeah gas mileage is pretty much awful if you can't afford the gas, you can't afford to own the car pretty much
