My impressions after 2 months of ownership

So I bought my 2010 GT AT a little over two months ago. And I have loved every minute of ownership. Love the on rails handling. Love the looks. The interior is nearly flawless in my opinion. Has 4 doors and my child's car seat fits. I love the way the engine sounds too. I don't find gas/oil consumption to be a problem either. I knew I was buying a sports car and not a Prius.

I have to say thanks to all the people who have posted DIY's. I generally haven't worked only previous cars outside of oil changes, and occasional brake work with the my father in law's help. But I changed out the coils, wires, plugs following the guide. I think they were all original so needed to go. Also changed the oil, which I wouldn't have been able to do with out knowing about the wierd shroud and hex key oil plug.

Future projects:
Resonated mid pipe from BHR or RB. Just to limit a failure point at the cat, and I don't need to worry about emissions testing. Maybe a cat back with it.
Full Bose-ectomy. Replacing the speakers, amps, and infotainment unit.
Possibly a AEM intake, mainly for the sound.
BHR ignition down the road.

If there's any other things that limit failure points, feel free to let me know.

RX8 Club’s recommended maintenance schedule, more comprehensive and proactive than Mazda’s schedule.
30,000 miles:
- Replace Ignition coils
- Replace Plug wires
- Replace Spark plugs
- Clean MAF (mass air flow sensor)
- Clean ESS (e-shaft sensor)
- Reset ESS profile
- Clean power steering connections
- Clean battery terminals and clamps
- Replace transmission fluid
- Replace coolant (Mazda FL-22 is highly recommended)
- Replace air filter
- Replace brake fluid (fluid in the brake lines AND the clutch line)
~$300 USD in parts if you shop smartly.

every 60,000:
...all 30,000, plus...
- Clean all chassis electrical grounding points
- Replace accessory belts
- Clean OMP lines
- Replace rear differential fluid
- Replace thermostat
- Clean / Straighten AC condenser fins
- Clean / Straighten oil cooler fins
- Inspect catalytic converter
- Clean / Inspect intake valving
- Consider / inspect all points in 90,000+ as well, many items fail early
~$130 USD in parts if you shop smartly.

90,000:
...all 30,000, plus any 60,000 not yet done, plus...
- Replace coolant bottle
- Replace radiator hoses
- Replace radiator
- Replace front O2 sensor
- Replace motor mounts
- Inspect clutch pedal assembly for flex / weld breaks
~$900 USD in parts if you shop smartly.
At 100k, anything original in the cooling system is really suspect and failure prone. It represents the biggest threat to your engine.

zerogunner, how many miles on your '10 GT? any noticeable difference with the new plugs/wires/coils? I just picked up an '09 GT and interested to hear from other Series II owners. Congrats on the purchase.

The ignition system on S2 cars is no better than it was on S1 cars. All the same stuff still applies. One of my coils failed at under 20K miles.

I have 40,100 miles on the OD. I noticed that it idled a little smoother at red lights when I changed. I think that was mostly to do with the spark plugs being changed. They were pretty crusty. The butt dyno didn't notice any changes in performance.

With that said, maybe if I add a huge wing, fake carbon fiber, K&N hot air filter and some AutoZone special fart cans my car will make moar power and my butt dyno will be off the charts!

^^^ HAHA. Oh my goodness, that is awesome! I almost woke up my sleeping son laughing when I saw this. I need this for every time I see someone say their car is 30% faster because they changed their air filter
