New 04 8 Owner
Just picked up my new (to me) RX8 tonight! Aaaaand now I'm waiting for a tow. Battery was dead and I stopped for gas before letting it charge. D'oh! Looking forward to getting it home and getting to work. I already plan to get new coils and the newer starter.
Figured this was as good a time as any to make my first post!

Welcome! Hope you're reading this at home, having gotten restarted quickly, and not still roadside waiting for the tow.
Plans for coils and starter already...you've read the stickies. Hope you realize you've just put some of the club's gatekeepers out of work.![Smilie](https://www.rx8club.com/images/smilies/smile.gif)

You need to change coils, wires and plugs at the same time. Any weak link here and you could be in engine trouble. And I recommend replacing that battery if it is more than two years old and now dead. Don't just try to keep charging it. Proper ignition is a vital key to the health and performance of a rotary engine.
I healthy engine (did you have a compression test done? ) with a healthy ignition spells a great start to happiness for you and your RX8. Welcome !

Battery is new, but was accidentally drained. I noticed the connections on the battery posts are pretty loose so I'll be tightening those up too. Going to do all the maintenance to get this thing back up to speed. I didn't have a compression test done yet, but will be doing so soon.
Only planning on playing around with autocross come summer, so I have some time to figure things out. Got what I think is an incredible deal on the car, so I don't mind having to do some work now.
By the way, tow driver got it started with a jumper pack. Starter sounds REALLY weak. Even with all the issues and the snowy weather tonight, I love the car already! Looking forward to some fun with the 8.

I agree with your plan to get the new starter. Use a battery charger and be sure your battery is fully charged , then with new coils, wires, plugs and a new starter you should be set (if your engine has good compression). Let us know how you make out. Best of luck to you.
