New 2004 rx8 owner
Last week I bought a 2004 sports automatic rx-8 for my first car. (It’s done 91k)
I don’t have much knowledge about cars and engines, I wanted some important tips on how to properly drive and maintain this car and something that’s concerned me a little bit that if I take my foot off the gas and the rpm drops low the car turns off why is and what should I do?

Despite all the negatives and all the scary threads on this car I still love it and am desperately trying to educate myself to maintain it properly

Did you get a compression test?
If not, you should go to a dealer and get a ROTARY SPECIFIC compression test before you sink any money into an '04 automatic, which unfortunately for you is the least desired and underpowered RX8.
You need to be sure you didn't buy a money pit.

These cars run fine with failing compression, then they start having problems with hot starts, and it progressively gets worse.
I'm dealing with that atm, and I'm in the process of researching my options, and saving a fund for the several thousand dollars it will cost me when it's time to replace/rebuild it.
You don't want to suddenly be faced with a dead engine and wondering what to do.
If it's failing, you can start budgeting for repairs, or another car.
(IIrc, automatics may be more expensive to rebuild)
If it passes, then you will have peace of mind for likely several years and can spend your money on the more practical and fun expenses like maintenance upgrades and modifications.

That's good, but you should still get the compression checked.

Yeah I will definitely discuss getting a compression test with my mechanic as soon as possible because I need that peace of mind, but there seems to be a power loss problem going on in the car because last night when the car was on and stationary the roof lights started to flash a little bit and the engine switched off again

Check that your terminals are clean and tight on the posts.
The bolts can be tight, but the terminals can stretch and still be loose.
If so, you can buy post caps that slip over the battery posts.

Unless he has a rotary compression tester.
You need each rotor face checked, 2 sets of 3 numbers.
