New 2005 mazda rx8 owner

Hi, im a new rx8 owner. It is a 2005 the body has a lot of miles on it but the motor only has 76000. which is quite a bit for a rotary motor. but since im new i dont know much. i have been looking on this website for all the information i can get. i havent had any problems with the car i recently bought but the regular hot starting problems and there is a irregular problem for me when i am going up a pretty big and long hill say in second gear i hear this popping noise coming from the engine/exhaust. cant tell which one but i hear the noise in the front of the car. could this just be spark plugs and wire/ coil problem... i am going to give it a full tune up soon but would like to know if anyone here has heard of this. as you guys will know a lot more then me. I am locating in the USA time zone gmt-6. state missouri

Congratulations and welcome! If you haven't already got a compression test done, get on it. The misfire you're experiencing is probably because you are in need of new coils, plugs and wires but it could be other issues also. You should really get the rotary specific compression test first and soon before you start spending money on parts. Definitely read through all the information in the new members section on what you need to do.

That depends on where you're located. You should post your location and I'm sure other members on the forum will chime in and point you in the right direction.

Post in your regional forum and see. Many members actually own compression testers and charge minimal fee's compared to the dealer. I have seen dealer compression tests as low as $100 and as high as 250. Most of the time they are right around $150-180.
