1) Your problem may or may not be the engine. You haven't given enough detailed information of the maintenance history, symptoms, and/or test results for us to make a determination.
2) The RX-8 has a rotary engine. So if it is the engine that is the problem and that is what has you upset, take heart that other Mazda's (that don't have an "RX" name) won't have the same problem.
3) If you haven't read the new owner's thread, you should do so, since it will probably give you insight as to what your problem may be, and how to go about solving it or diagnosing it.

You have spent a lot of time going back and forth about other stuff, but you had one diagnosis that would explain everything:
A compression test IS the definitive method of telling if you have a failing engine, so failing a compression test means that your engine is failing. Period. There is no way around it and no way to fiddle with anything to solve it ... other than a new engine or an engine rebuild.
