TX New to the club - need some advice on intake manifold

I have an 05 SI and need help! I bought her new and considering the horror stories I have heard have had few problems until the CEL started coming on and now stays on, plus it just sounds sick, for lack of better words.
I am trying to read threads having to do with an issue I am having my exhaust manifold and am not as savy as some of ya'll are. The most I can do in change the O2 sensors, plugs, coils, brakes...easy stuff and now I am out of my league.
The code is P2070 and some others that I was told all relate to this one. From what I understand this is a valve that is stuck open.
I was told I have to replace the intake manifold and this requires taking the engine out. They quoted me $2600 for parts and labor.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated!!
Thank you

Yes, you can do it for far far less.

Thank you!
Did not turn out to be that after all.
Took it...crept it more like...to someone who knows more about these cars. They said it's the apex seals and they recommend a rebuild.

Uh...

I'm immediately suspicious that they don't know what they are talking about. WHO did you bring it to? "Apex seals" are rarely the problem except on a high mileage engine with low compression scores on a properly conducted compression test, and anyone that "knows RX-8s" will know this.

"Apex Seals" won't cause P2070.

Yes, you might also have low compression, but the chain of information you have indicated makes me suspect you are being led along with misinformation from the common myths and ignorant people out there that believe them.

I kinda wondered...I took it to MPower in Houston, TX
Any ideas of a better place to take it and other questions to ask to get this resolved correctly?

A quick google search: "Mpower is the premier Mercedes, BMW, Audi, Porsche, Ferrari, Lamborghini and Bentley aftermarket and performance upgrade specialists in Houston"

So yeah, they have no idea WTF they are talking about with a rotary. Like any other place I've ever seen that doesn't have experience, they see a problem with a rotary and immediately assume it's "the apex seals", even if it has nothing to do with the engine. That's akin to every doctor or nurse you encounter telling you that your bruise, or papercut, or broken leg means that you have a brain tumor.

A better place to ask is RX8Club.com. We know more about these cars than even a dealer does, and if someone gives you bad information or bad advice, it's in public where people that know better can step in and make corrections.

As you asked above, P2070 is an SSV malfunction, and my first reply has the DIY steps for cleaning it. If you have a shop do the work, it's going to hit your account hard.

If you have another problem, you will have to detail what the problem is.

I did ask them the questions you suggested and they didn't have real clear answers:/ Have any idea of any place in Houston that I could take it? I have come to not trust the dealerships.
Yeah, I don't have a shop that I trust as of yet and I can't do the work myself...don't have the tools and quite honestly afraid to mess it up worse than it already is.

You have only posted in this thread, and the answers so far provided have been really clear.

So I don't quite understand what you mean?

But, try asking here: https://www.rx8club.com/gulf-rx-8-fo...ouston-225630/
