Up until 07 or 08, the Sport was not the base model in the U.S. The 8 comes as a base model with the manual or automatic transmission and packages can be added to that. The 6spd version gets the larger wheels and brakes as well ad the limited slip differential as a base model and the automatic gets the smaller wheels and brakes. The automatic version can be fitted with packages such as the Sport, Touring and Grand Touring which will then give it the larger wheels and brakes with the LSD.

The Sport package adds DSC and fog lights
The Touring adds a moonroof, Bose stereo, and an auto dimming rearview mirror with Homelink.
The Grand Touring adds leather seating and heated mirrors.
All trim levels can be fitted with the navigation system.

Wanted to follow up with pictures of the brochures from 05 showing the trim levels and of the 08 brochure showing the later trim levels with the Sport model being the base model. As the RX-8 aged, Mazda tried to slim down the line and added more standard equipment to the car, thus eliminating the Base model entirely.

Happy to help. I remember going to the dealer when these cars were new trying to find that perfect 8 to buy. I remember going over all of these packages and all of the accessories. It was fun. Settled on an 05 6spd Sport.

I actually have two Nordic Green 8's and may buy a third this weekend. That's the color I wanted when I was looking for a new one back in 04. They were hard to get and I settled for black.

As a new RX-8 owner, my jaw dropped when I read that! Just awesome!

It's too new for me still, but ..... I'm liking this car so much that if I came across another one that seemed like a good deal I'd consider it.

I'm honestly thinking about rescuing two more rollers that are close by. I went and looked at them yesterday. I don't know what's wrong with me but I can't just let them rot away. I just love these cars so much it's hard to see them suffer.

I only insure what I'm driving that's currently registered. The Corvette, BMW, MR2, one 10th Anniversary RX-7, and my Brilliant Black 8 are currently insured. I pay a little over 300 per month and that includes my 13 Sienna that my wife drives. A few are on storage insurance for the winter and that drops the bill a bit.

I honestly didn't know there was a trim level change until I did oil cooler lines on a customer car and when I ordered the parts from the dealer I learned that the 07 Sport inwas working on was in fact just the base model. After that I did a bunch of research and low and behold, Mazda did simplify their line.

That's not even that bad, mine is worse. It's the certificate of authenticity to know you have a genuine RX8 .

Your passenger side airbag cover appears to be in excellent condition 10KRPM!! They are commonly cracked and it's a shame that Mazda never issued a recall on them. I have one uncracked unit wrapped up in my garage. All of my 8's have a cracked passenger side airbag cover.

Y'all should start coloring in those shapes, turn them into genuine pieces of art.

The whole car is in excellent shape, inside and out. The young man who was the last owner does detailing for a living so was taking really good care of it, better than I will to be honest! Good to know about the cracking, I might consider a sunshade in the summer to see if I can avoid that.
