The New Guy
The new Guy, I been reading posts past couple of days to get familiar, my parents bought my son a automatic 2006 RX8 with 88k miles with out any research for his first car , so I am little concerned with everything I have read so far. The car seems to be strong motor and transmission. I am going to be doing a full tuneup, coils upgrade, spark plugs, oil change, radiator flush, and start the premix, I have ordered cat delete and exhaust for already. Fingers crossed!

Regarding the cat delete, keep the original mid pipe and don’t punch out the material. It’s worth a lot of money. Some that need a cat to pass emissions tests will buy it. If it’s plugged take it to a recycling station and be surprised how much money you walk away with. BHR makes a good mid pipe that can be optioned with a cat.

Welcome to the forum! As stated above, save the original converter. I like the tone with a cat delete pipe. On my Nordic Green 04 GT, I have a mid pipe and Racing Beat muffler and I think the tone is nice. Sounds like you have a good plan in place for the car and the smartest thing you could have done is read up on the car. Not all of the horror stories are true surrounding the RX-8. I've owned and driven them since they were new and they are honestly fantastic cars.
