Hi Folks,
After some hesitation I finally gathered the courage and bought a S2 RX8 \o/
this was always my dream car, I love the visual, high rev sensation. My new baby has 98k miles on it, I'm taking it to do a compression test on Mazda Pros but for what I can say the engine is very alive, good idle, no overheating issues... Well, fingers crossed.
Un saludo para todos los latinos o/
Btw, my first rotary ^^ and althoug I'm used to JDM and foruns, please try to be gentle if I say something stupid hehe

Update.
Cars seems to run great, power all the way up. Cold and hot start are easy, AC working fine.
Bad side: needs a lot of detailing working inside and outside, 4 new tires, mud flap (driver side).
besides that I will take this lady for a service check. New fluids (all), sensor cleaning, compression check, new brake kit et cetera.
Updates soon

Bienvenidos! Welcome to the club. Apparently there is a dedicated website for new owners now which is nice. Rx8help.com. Otherwise seems like you’re onboard and not new to vehicles otherwise so it should make the transition smooth.

yes, I've been through a lot with cars, specially JDM and FRDM (oui les voitures). Also I do dream about owning one nice car of each major Japanese manufacturer, so far been through Suzuki, Honda, Subaru, Mitsubishi and now Mazda, anyway I see a bright future for this 8.

Hi everyone,
I haven't posted in a while but much has been done
So far I got:
* about the compression test: the way the car drive and start up (even when hot) are not like a car with poor compression. I was planning to get a new engine since I bought the car but I should take it to do a new test on a better place or buy a tester and do it myself), regardless a new engine and other stuff are on my list.
I haven't posted in a while but much has been done
So far I got:
- a compression test (which I didn't like because I'm not sure if it was done properly, later I will explain why), got a a avarege of 6,5 on one rotor and the other one was around 7 (250rpm sea level) - lost the picture of the tester.
- New spark plugs (NGK oem)
- New BHR Coils and wires
- New Air filter (engine and cabin)
- Oil change (castrol GTX 10w40)
- Transmission oil (GL4 red line)
- Diferential oil (GL5 redline)
- New battery (optima red)
- New key fob from Mazda
- Fuel pump recall
- Coolant flush and Coolant change (mazda fl22)
- Running idemitsu premix 1/2 oz per gallon (using premium fuel 93)
- 4 new tires Michelin PS4 (alignment et cetera)
- New rotors (EBC), brakelines Goodridge, EBC yellow pads, brake fluid bleeded and now running Motul rbf 600.
- Got a good detailer to work on the paint but the roof paint is fading, there are some marks on the front bumper, a stain on the trunk lid and a missing spoiler below the back dor.
- Interior is in good condition, still, there are things to do in order to make it look perfect.
- Almost 1k miles since I bought the car, I'm monitoring the ect (Around 200-210 Florida summer) and cat temperature (1300~1600F) using a obd2 reader (blue driver). Oil consumption is according to the service manual.
- I don't want to mention fuel consumption, all I can say I have been enjoying it. Seriously, this car is great, the chassis, suspension and engine match perfectly, it doesn't feel slow at all.

About what I should do next:
- saving money for a new engine;
- Thinking about a catback system just for a better exhaust sound (opinions?)
- New tail light gasket (water infiltration "/)
- New gears to the window motor;
- New rotary shift ****
- New airbag cover
- Wrap the steering wheel with sued
- New entertainment system and improve the sound system

A lot of your maintenance is perfect. Tbh.. just drive the car till the motor goes. Till then save money for the rebuild. As far as cat back options. My favorite is the racing beat cat back. It has a deep tone to it.. but it’s not overly loud till you’re really on it.

Congrats on the new S2! I have a Blue 2010 R3 that I bought fairly recently off a friend who is a rotary freak. So cheers to good rotary health!
That said, you've done a lot of work on your car, so I'm sure you'll be fine. And like you, I'm taking my car mainly to the rotary techs at my local Mazda dealership, since I don't have the time, nor tools, to do most stuff myself. My car is running pretty flawless and the compression health is probably good for another 2-3 years if I can calculate correct. Also, I highly recommend trying Cataclean and Techron fuel additives sometimes on top of your premix. It totally works.
Can't wait to hear updates!
