New member, looking for some help and insight
Hey guys, first time poster here. I bought my RX-8 about 4 months ago, it's a 2005 with 220k miles. Pretty beat up and old, but she's such a pretty lady. However, even though I've always loved cars, I'm not very technical about them so I'm here with hopes to change that and learn how to troubleshoot and fix her myself (lats repair guys I went to totally scammed me).
So here's my issue: I went back home for about 11 days and left my lady behind. When I came back, she wouldn't start up, although it does sound like the engine is cranking. I've tried the engine flood solution, but that's about as far as I've tried (I've had people suggest pulling out the spark plugs, greasing them up and putting them back in but haven't tried it). I was hoping you guys could look at this video and let me know what you guys think, from your experience (since I have none).

Thank you ahead of time for any time and help you might throw my way.
Nice to meet you all!

OP
First and foremost welcome to the forum and the community.
All cars no matter if they are a pretty little rotary or a beast of a piston engine all work under the same laws of "suck squeeze bang blow"
Basically, car sucks in fuel and air, compresses(squeeze) the two into an explosive mixture. The ignition system ignites the fuel (bang) and the leftovers are swept out the exhaust ports. blow
It could range from something as simple as a loose battery connection to plugs, wires, coils, fuel pump, bad starter, dead battery etc...
Starting issue's are well, common and caused by a host of different things. Start here, if you can't come to a conclusion, post back up for some more help

Your battery and/or starter are shot. That is a VERY VERY low cranking speed. Likely you have flooded the engine as a result of that.
Hook up another running car to the battery with jumper cables and try again. If it cranks significantly faster, then it's the battery, if it still cranks slow, it's the starter.
Your mention of "greasing the spark plugs" is scary, because i can't ever recall seeing that, and it sounds like a terrible idea.
How do I Fix Flooding?

How do I Fix Flooding?
1: Hook up the battery of another running car to the 8's battery via jumper cables to make sure you don't kill your battery.
2: Hold the gas pedal to the floor
3: Turn the key to Start and crank for 5-10 seconds
4: Let the starter cool off for the same time that you cranked it for
5: Repeat 3 and 4 10 times total
6: Take your foot off the gas and let the starter rest for 5 minutes
7: Repeat 2-6 one more time.
8: Attempt to start the engine normally.
9: if it doesn't start, repeat 2-6 one more time, then try starting again.
If it still doesn't start, then you have a major failure somewhere that is preventing it from having a chance at starting (see the list mentioned earlier), but if it's just a normal flood, this will solve it.
If you would prefer to use a different deflooding method, see here: https://www.google.com/webhp?sourcei...0deflood%20diy
HOWEVER, only pick ONE method. Mixing method almost always results in lots of frustration. The steps given are not arbitrary, they have real reason and purpose behind them, and they depend on the other steps being performed correctly. Pick just one at a time.

Awesome, thank you guys so much for helping. I'm gonna look through the guide Williard posted and then have my friend bring her car over and hook it up to try RIWWP's method. Hopefully you're right and it is the battery.
Sweet!
