Hey guys, thought I would introduce myself. I live in the piedmont/triad area of NC and own a 2004 Velocity Red RX8. I bought it back in October of 2013 and have never regretted it. I got to admit when I drove a 350z I never understood why everyone said the RX8 was so much more fun to drive. Now that I own one I understand the car just makes you smile when you drive it. I bought it cause I missed the style of car my 350z was, but did not want another 350z... *long story* Anyway, I found the car from a guy that had bought it for his son and the car had developed a starting problem. He said he was tired of working on it and would let the car go for $1200.00, I countered with $1000.00 and he accepted. So I had it towed home and found that it was flooded and used a tow start method I found on this site to get it started. It ran fine after that, well for awhile anyway.
A couple of months ago the car started having hot start problems and eventually evolved into would not start. I have replaced most of the ignition system (plugs, wires, coils, E-shaft sensor, starter, and fuel pump.) Also along the way I have replaced the cat, various relays, and had the fuel injectors tested. Some of this was out of necessity and some was they should have been replaced by now and had not. While replacing things I had seen examples that they car may have not been cared for very well in the past so, pending a compression test, I am starting suspect that the motor might need a rebuild which I am fine with since I got the car at a good price, another 4 or 5k worth of parts should not be to bad. Since the car is not my daily driver and can be down as long as I need it to be. I am wanting to rebuild the motor myself. I like the car and I want to learn as much as I can about it. I have the tech manual, and some pages bookmarked of other peoples projects that were detailed in their rebuilds, but I was curious if anyone could recommend a good rebuild dvd. Even if the compression test says the motor is fine I would still like to own the dvd for education. Thanks in advance for any suggestions guys.

Hi Guy
It is such a blast to drive . I am Just North of Greensboro just off Hicone.I have a 2004 silver rx8 that I love !!!
After replacing the parts did you do the resets ?
Do you have the newer starter ? Turns up higher RPMS ?
What coil packs did you use ?
If you do a rebuild let me know !!!! I dont mind getting my hands dirty !!!
