What's up guys. I figured I would throw an introduction thread up in the New Member area before starting my project thread. I have had many sports cars previously. Many with engine swaps and extensive mods. I'm finally at a place in life where I can build something that will really only have to be used on the track, so I don't have to make compromises on the mods so that it will work right on the street as well. After much thought, I decided to look for a RX-8 because of a few main reasons. They have decent room inside while still weighing relatively light, they have a strong chassis and great suspension, and they are stupid cheap when not running right. While I drove multiple low mileage, good running vehicles, I just wasn't at all impressed with the power compared to previous vehicles, so I decided I would find one that has engine issues and swap it out with something that better fits my needs. I am not hating on rotary engines as I think they are incredibly fascinating, but there are many reasons why it will not work for my needs and I am not going to get into a dispute over it.
After months of searching I found this gem a couple hours away.
It is a 2006 base model with a manual trans and a rough running engine throwing tons of codes. However, I only paid $1050 for it. So, the journey has begun to tear it down and turn it into a track car. I have started a youtube channel and will film the entire process. I will be starting a build thread and most likely a non-rotary engine swap thread once the car gets to that point. I'm super excited to be building this RX8 and think it is going to fit my needs perfectly.
