New member, new RX8 owner
So I work at a Mazda dealership and when I first started, there was this 2005 silver RX8 buried in the back of the dealership covered in a snow drift. My boss told me the car was abandoned by the owner there and it needed a new radiator. I didn’t give the car much thought after that but I passed by it every day I came into work. It just sat there, sad and lonely. Fast forward to a couple weeks ago and now that same RX8 that was abandoned and buried in a snow drift is now in my hands. The funny thing is I had no desire to own this car but I had the chance to drive it after everything was repaired and it was back on the road after I finished detailing it...and I was hooked instantly.
I started here, reading post after post, every thread I could find about new ownership for these cars. I broke out my notepad and started taking notes left and right. I’ve watched countless videos about the rotary and read as much as I could cram into my brain in a night. If I wasn’t working, I was reading about these cars. I live for research but in that moment of driving it, I knew I had to own it.
I’m not new to cars and I have made a living wrenching before so I know my way around a piston engine but the rotary is something I’ve never touched before and it’s exciting learning about these engines and the cars they power. Coming from a background in mostly German cars, this is my first Japanese car in almost a decade, my first Mazda, and my first rotary and I can honestly say with my hand on my heart that I’ve fallen for this car. I’ve never owned a car with more personality and every single morning I look forward to driving to work. Hearing that glorious buzzing noise is better than a cup of coffee. But you guys already know this because you too own them. Not only that but this forum is probably one of the most non-toxic forums ever and that certainly means that we really are driving a very special car.
Thanks for reading through my rambling but I’ve never been more thrilled about any car I’ve owned. I’ve owned cars with 500+ horsepower, cars with gobs of tech, luxury cars, sports cars, trucks, and cars that make you wind the windows down with a lever. None of them have made me smile as much as this one and I’m thrilled to be a part of this club.
