Hi Team,

My name is Cole, I'm from New Zealand

Ive been around Rotaries for a while now and have had my rx7 for the past 7 years.

About 6 months ago I picked up my latest RX8.

Its a 4 port 5 Speed car (japanese import)
I brought it as a rolling body complete less engine.

Since then i have been researching everything needed to fit a 1JZ-GTE.
This wasn't my first engine choice but my original K24 proved to be far too tall to fit into the bay and still close the bonnet.

That'll do for this post, Just thought id say hi and let you all in on what I'm doing down here.
Once i get enough posts I'll start a build thread and get more in depth.

Cheers!

Welcome. I can respect the amount of work that it takes to build that. Better than seeing the car rot away.

Thanks,
I'll Create a build page in the projects section once I have enough posts to move out of the noob section.

Thanks.
Still a lot more to do. For a car that sat idle in a shed for 3 years she was surprisingly clean and in good condition.

That's an odd motor mount. If that's even what I'm looking at lol, everything being on the wrong side has me turned around. Either way, props to another JZ swap. Going 2J in mine

Good eyes!
Im using an NC MX5 subframe and steering rack.
In NZ we have a certification process that we have to go through before the car is allowed on the road.
Dropping the factory rx8 rack and extending the shaft is more work than I want to do so I went this route.
The mount picture is the LH side. (lots of space compared to LHD.)
I relocated the ABS mount to the subframe to get it out of the bay and since i already had to make brake lines.

Im happy with the (slow) progress so far.

Im happy to listen if you have any pointers.

Cheers.

Very clever! I had a hunch that the NC subframes would bolt up to the RX8 since the opposite has been done in miatas to some degree of frequency. Didn't want to spend the money on a tubular frame just on a hunch though. I'll be interested to see if this keeps steering feel closer to stock.
