I was smelling something odd. That's what made me think about the cabin filter.

Ordered a new one on ebay.

Most auto part stores carry cabin air filters.

Just an update (kind of) - didn't pull out the molded 'carpet' panels in the trunk. Husband suggested we put a trap in the trunk instead. After almost 2 weeks with a trap in the trunk there has been no activity. Same for trap in the garage. I guess the critter has moved on (fingers crossed).
