new NZ owner here. what oils do you use?

Hello, im a new NZ rx8 owner just recently got a s2 AT rx8. what premix do you recommend using and wheres the best place to get it. and what oil to use too to put in the actual engine oil thing. Ive read the thread for new owners but still got some questions regarding the car. is the premix and the engine oil the same? thanks!

Hi, Premix is a 2 stroke (any quality jaso fd rated will do) solution, don't use that for engine oil. Use it when filling with fuel in the tank, the ratio is debatable. 100:1, 150:1, depending the use.
Personally I've been using full synth branded products with no problems for over 15 years.

I have been trying to figure out if people use premix with the S2 motors.
If i was going to start premixing I think i would just go with the rotary bum stuff.

As far as I know, s2 owners use premix. That rotary bum kit is fine.

The equivalent in valvoline would be this https://www.valvoline.com/en-australia/our-products/engine-oil/valvoline-2-stroke-racing-oil
I don't know about marine oil.
As for engine oil, I've been using amsoil full synthetic the last 15 years. Viscosity depends on climate conditions and use.

Hi Desktopsan , for any rx8 s1 or s2 , premix is entirely optional but if you like a little extra insurance it certainly wont do any harm. I wouldn't add more than 200:1 to any Renesis with a functioning omp (oil metering pump). Motul 800 is what I would recommend and it's available from most Japanese motorcycle shops.
For engine oil ..... there are as many opinions as oils out there. Personally , I use Castrol GTX10w40 and change it every 5-6000 kms . I like to buy it in bulk when Repco has a sale and sell it for as low as $28/4l. My view (after over 300,000 Renesis kms and after seeing multiple engine teardowns) , is that changing the oil often is better than using expensive oil with a longer change time on these engines.
